A broken copper-alloy sheet plate from a medieval strap-fitting, probably a buckle plate. The fragmentary plate is rectangular and features a pair of rivet holes at the attachment end; it has broken at a further hole at the centre of the sheet. The attachment end has been bent, then down at its terminal. The corners are slightly abraded and rounded at the attachment end; one of the perforations has a crack between it and the side. Corrosion has robbed us of any decoration, if indeed it existed; the artefact is now a variable mid-green colour with patches of lighter corrosion product.

A broken copper-alloy sheet plate from a medieval strap-fitting, possibly a buckle plate. The fragmentary plate is sub-rectangular, ragged at both short ends following old breaks. There is perforation near the centre of the extant sheet. One end has been bent upwards. On one surface are stamped lozengiform punches, representing a central pellet within a linear border, all within a ropework border. They are arranged in four corners of a square, two aligned with the perforation, two at one of the breaks; there is a possible fifth at the centre of the group. The artefact is now a variabl…

A medieval copper-alloy strap-fitting, possibly a strap-plate or strap-end, consisting of a rectangular sheet folded over on itself. There is a central circular perforation on both halves; above and below are smaller rivet holes. The sides of the object has been damaged in the past. The artefact now has a variable mid-green patina with some areas of lighter corrosion product. For similar see Egan and Pritchard (1991, 225; fig. 141) and Margeson (1993, 39; fig. 22). Such objects tend to have been found in 14th-century contexts.

A corroded fragment from a cast copper-alloy hooked mount of post-medieval date. The fragment consists of the lower part of the mount, including the hook and the lower part below a rivet hole. Within this lower rivet hole corroded remains of an iron rivet. The sides of the mount are scalloped with rounded protrusions to the sides. The inward-turning hook has been bent slightly to one side as a result of old damage. The metal has corroded to a red-brown colour with larges areas of light-green and off-white corrosion product.

A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy hooked mount of post-medieval date. The mount is sub-trapezoidal in plan with a cusped upper edge. It tapers towards the hook (now missing), widening slightly just above the hook; the mount has broken as the hook begins. The mount is broadly flat with slight bevelling on its upper surface. It features two iron rivets, one towards the upper edge, the other just below the centre of the plate. Much of the upper rivet survives corroded in place. The copper alloy is covered in an off-white corrosion product over a mid-green metal. Comparable hook…

A corroded cast copper-alloy medieval bar mount, with a central circular openwork element. The central lobe has a circular perforation (Int. dia.: 4.6mm), just off centre. The arms are semicircular in cross-section and have rounded ends; one is longer. Surviving in perforations at each end of the arms is a rivet; the rivets have both been bent inwards on the lower surface. The reverse surface is flat, while the upper surface is bevelled. The object is similar to bar mounts illustrated in Read (2001, 23; refs. 142ff.). The dark red-brown underlying metal is consistent with gilding; tra…

A small trapezoidal object cast in copper alloy, possibly a mis-cast medieval strap-slide with a pair of short pointed internal projections. It is trapezoidal in shape with slightly rounded corners. The artefact is flat on both faces. It has a large, broadly T-shaped openwork, slightly off centre. On one surface there is a longitudinally incised line between the hole and the side; the wider side. The attribution of this artefact is uncertain; it is reminiscent of medieval padlocks. For rectangular/trapezoidal strap-slides/loops can be found illustrated in Griffiths et al. (2007, 129…

A broadly circular mount of medieval date, abraded at the circumference. The mount is of copper-alloy sheet, perforated near the edge at opposing points. One surface is tinned and covered in fine diagonal striations. The perforations are through the coated surface but no rivets survive. For mounts of similar construction see Egan and Pritchard (1991, 166; fig. 107).

A post-medieval copper-alloy hooked mount. The central portion of the mount is sub-oval in plan and domed, with a hollow underside. It tapers towards the hook and is faceted with a flattened top and bevelled sides.  Extending upwards from the top is rounded lobe which has a central rivet hole (with an iron rivet still in situ), a transverse ridge at its base and a long, rounded projection at the top. At the base of the mount is a transverse groove above a backward-facing hook. There is a further, this time copper-alloy and integral, rivet and a rove just above the groove which would …
