The broken bowl from a cast copper-alloy 17th-century post-medieval spoon. The handle and the majority of the bowl are missing, both from old breaks. The handle is rectangular in cross-section; on the lower surface it tapers to a point at its junction with the bowl. The surviving section of the bowl is shallow and has been bent upwards at the extant terminal, with breaks to each side. There is evidence on the bowl for a circular makers mark, central on the upper surface, which is now unclear but possibly a (Tudor) rose (as with SOM-7C2A26 on this database). A damaged and incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval spoon consisting of most of the bowl and part of the handle (c. 17th century AD). Little of the handle now survives; the old break reveals a square cross-section. There is a concave depression on the lower surface at the junction of handle and bowl. The bowl was fig shaped but has suffered losses to one side and along the tip. It has a flattened rim all around. A cast copper alloy spoon finial (length: 34mm; width at shoulders of blade: 13mm; thickness at shoulders of blade: 3mm; weight: 3.03g). Intregrally cast with the blade, the small handle/ end knob (length: 7mm) has bead, reel and spool mouldings. The blade tapers fairly gently from shoulders to the blade where the forked tip has been broken off to form a jagged edge. The front of the blade has been engraved/ incised with possible animal motifs. This decoration, however, is fairly crude and mostly consists of unidentifiable linear markings. A fragment of Post-Medieval (late 17th or 18th century) copper alloy small spoon, consisting of part of the handle and terminal only. It measures 35.35x11.21x4.64mm and weighs 2.4g. The main body of this object is an elongated triangle in shape, flat in cross-section. The top edge is curved and also curves slightly backwards. At the centre of the curve is a collared globular terminal, topped with a knop. An incomplete Post-Medieval copper alloy spoon, probably dating to the late 17th or 18th century. The surviving fragment comprises of the end of the spoon's handle. This is broadly piriform in shape, tapering from 12.9mm wide at its rounded shoulders to 4.1mm, where it terminates in a worn break. In profile the top edge of one face of the handle thickens pronouncedly above the widest point of the shoulders, from 1.4mm to 3.8mm, creating a lip with a concave curve below it. The knop starts with a flat circular disk which tapers down to two simple balls with a moulded collar beneath. The surface of the disc is worn and has no evidence of pecked initials remaining. An incomplete cast copper alloy spoon handle dating to the Post-Medieval period (c. AD 1450-1600). The surviving object comprises part of the of the stem of the handle and a spherical and knop close to its terminal, although the terminal itself is missing. The spoon's stem is approximately oval in cross-section although it is quite irregular from chips to its outside.
