A fragment of a copper-alloy coin, probable a Spanish re-validated maravedis. Often called "cob" coins, these were crudely made in Spain initially, and later in the Americas for use in the Spanish colonies. The coinage was re-valued and consequently these are often countermarked.

Reverse: [ ] 1652, Crowned shield containing a lion facing left.
