Cast copper alloy handle for a folding knife. The handle is curved, circular in section and tapers from the end which was attached to the knife blade to a blunt point at the other end, with a rounded knop. There is a collar around the other end with a spherical knop projecting from its outer side and two other spherical knops evenly spaced along the outer edge. Next to the collar the bar is much wider and has a central slot for the knife. There is a rivet hole through the metal, with an iron rivet through it creating a hinge for the knife. An end scraper. There is long, parallel, abrupt retouch around the proximal end on the ventral face, removing the striking platform. There may also have been very short, abrupt retouch on the distal end to produce an irregular outline, although this may also be due to natural fracture when the flake was sruck from the core. Post Medieval copper alloy token farthing minted for William Smith of Steyning, Sussex in 1667. Williamson Vol 3. p.1182, Sussex No.165. William Smith was a mercer. There is a reference, in Sussex Archaeological Collections 19 p.95, to a William Smith of Steyning who had an estate worth £20 seized by parliment in 1655 because the owner was either a Royalist or a Catholic (the ordnance covered both). This may or may not be the same person as issued the tokens but Williamson suggests it is.

A copper-alloy Roman sandal-sole type plate brooch, probably dating from the 2nd century AD. The plate is flat on top and takes the form of the sole of a sandal with a rounded heel and pointed toe. The front has a narrow raised border round the edge outlining a recessed area in the centre of the plate containg 9 raised circular 'nails'; five running down the centre and pairs to either side in the wider parts at the 'heel' and 'ball'. A broken cast copper-alloy pin with spherical filigree head of early post-medieval date (c. 16th century AD). The pin shaft is circular in cross section with a spherical knop at one end which projects just beyond the pin head. The other end is bent through 45 degrees and broken just below the head. The remainer is 22.1mm long by 1.9mm in diameter. The whole piece weighs 1.94 grams. An incomplete Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) cast copper-alloy strap-end, dating from the 9th century. This is an example of a Thomas Class A strap-end, with a split end, outward bowing sides, and probably a zoomorphic terminal, which has subsequently been lost, along with some of the tapering strap-end body (cf. Medieval copper alloy coin weight for an Ecu a la chaise. It is square and unifaced, on the obverse is a square topped shield containing three Lis, the reverse is plain. It is 14.0 by 12.9mm and 3.2mm thick; it weighs 4.05g. This is lighter than the standard weight for an Ecu a la chaise but this is to be expected as a coin weights, are for the legal minimum rather than the average weight of a coin. Some weight may also have been lost to corrosion. This sort of weight was made in France and England between 1337-51 AD (Withers & Withers 1995, 39).

Post Medieval cast lead-alloy uni-face circular token, 1500-1850 AD. The token has the raised initials TP on one side. The reverse appears to have a raised pellet towards one edge but this could possibly be a casting flaw. The token measures 18.2 mm in diameter, 1.9 mm thick, and weighs 3.84 grams. Lead tokens were locally made and had a wide variety of uses; they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initials are thought to be Post Medieval in date.

Lozenge shaped cast copper alloy terminal from a larger item. It is oval in section with rounded edges and slightly convex upper and lower faces. At one end the piece comes to a point, at the other it ends in an old break, 4.9mm across. There is an indent in the centre of one side next to the break, this may be deliberate or damage. Length 25.8mm, width 10.8mm, thickness 3.4mm. Weight 3.56 grams. Such a small peice could be a componant of many different objects including pendants, strap fittings and implements.

An incomplete lead-alloy piece of uncertain date: probably a piece of casting waste. It is a strip, triangular in section with very concave sides. One end is rounded the other has an old, almost square break. The lower side is slightly irregular. Emerging from the spine on the upper surface are six pellets spaced equally along its length. These extend down the sides and have all been truncated, with old breaks. They could be sprues from the casting process. It is 40.1mm long, 13.2mm wide, 4.8mm thick and weighs 8.40 grams.

Post Medieval - Modern cast lead two disc cloth seal. The disks sit one on top of the other and are joined by a tab. One had a hole in the centre and the other a projecting point which has been pushed through the hole and then stamped flat to fix them together. The tab is mostly missing from old breaks. The stamp has the initials R.W. The discs are bent and at most 27.4mm in diameter, 3.7mm thick and it weighs 14.22 grams. The simplcity of the design of initials rather than a privy mark suggests a later date, 17th-18th century (cf Egan p.84, no.234, 236 and p.86, no.242)

A Post Medieval cast copper alloy lozenge shaped mount. The mount is flat on the surface with bevelled edges. On the reverse there are two integral rivets. One of them has broken and is now 3.6 mm long, the other is bent over at 90 degrees and approximately 11.6 mm long at is full length. A piece of dried leather is still fastened on the underside of the mount. The metal surface of the object is a red copper colour with a bright green patina in places. The mount is 32.5 mm, 25.6 mm at its widest point, and wieghs 6.82 grams. It probably dates to 1500 - 1700 AD.

A cast copper alloy Anglo-Saxon saucer brooch, dating from the mid 5th to mid 6th centuries AD. The brooch is incomplete, missing some of the rim, the pin and part of the catch plate. The brooch has traces of gilding on the front with a raised design of a central circle surrounded by five running spirals or scrolled tendrils. All of this is bounded by an outer circular border which has regularly spaced transverse indents. The reverse has the remains of the single lug to hold the hinge with traces of iron corrosion. Medieval cast lead-alloy circular uni-faced token. The token has a raised design of square topped shield with a chequey pattern on one side. The reverse of the token has an raised five petalled flower. Above the shield is a piercing through the token, possibly secondary. It is 22.1mm in diameter, 3.1mm thick and weighs 6.14 grams. A number of familys bore a chequey coat of arms including the locally prominent de Warrene family (in use 1066-1415).
