Five flint cores and core fragments, some with evidence of retouch. First core weighs 33.8 grams. Flat piece with cortex to top and bottom. Working around three sides includes evidence for flake removal and working off several edges including the edge of the natural break on the fourth side. Medium brown flint with a paler and darker mottling. Second core weighs 35.8 grams. Large flake removed off a core, probably a core refreshment flake. The piece has a large bulb of percussion and ripples on the ventral side where the piece was removed from the core. There is evidence (short …

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete tertiary retouched flake of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. The flake has a visible bulb of percussion on the ventral face which has been partially removed by the very large bulbar scar due to a flaw in the flint. The distal end has snapped, as has the proximal right corner. There is short scalar abrupt retouch at the proximal end of the left edge and along the remaining part of the right edge of the dorsal face. Towards the centre of the left edge the retouch becomes longer and semi-abrupt. The flint is light-mid grey in colour.

Broken fragment of an invasively retouched arrowhead dating to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (4500-1500 BC). The remaining piece is almost triangular due to breaks, about three fifths of the original outline survives. The point and part of the attachment end is lost, making it unclear what the original form was, possibly leaf shaped. Both the dorsal and ventral faces are covered by shallow invasive semi parallel pressure flaking. The arrowhead is made out of translucent light brown flint, some cortex is visible on the centre of one side.

A coarsely worked striking platform is visible, with a bulb of percussion and a bulbar scar on the ventral face. Two flint scrapers. Horseshoe scraper made on a large primary flake. Clear bulb on the ventral face. The dorsal face is covered in cortex, the thickness suggests it is not pebble flint. Short, parallel, semi-abrupt retouch around the semi-circular distal end. Pale grey flint, 15.24 grams. Thick fragment of a core with c. 10% cortex on the dorsal face suggesting it is pebble flint. The bulb has been removed form the ventral face. The left edge and distal end are a semi-circular edge with short, semi-parallel, shallow to semi-abrupt retouch. Dark grey flint with paler mottling, …

Object type: AXEHEAD ROUGHOUT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Neolithic flint axehead roughout, probably dating to c. 4000-2400 BC. The object is made of a dark brown/grey flint visible at more recent breaks but is is almost completely covered in a solid white patina, at the distal (butt) end of the dorsal face this surface is still covered in a layer of cortex, discoloured slightly green in patches. The flint has been bifacially worked, with flakes removed in a variety of directions and with a striking platform surviving at the apparently unfinished butt. A number of short removal scars struck from the edge terminate in negative hinge fractur…

A Neolithic flint axehead roughout, probably dating to c. 4000-2400 BC. The flint is covered in a white patina with its surface still showing traces of cortex in places. The flint has been bifacially worked, with flakes removed in a variety of directions and worked into a broadly sub-rectangular shape, 116.1mm long. It tapers from it's widest point behind the blade, 52.5mm, to a relatively squared butt, 32.8mm. Below the widest point the object curves into a blade which has a C-shaped plan. The axe has a thick, pointed oval cross section, at its thickest point it measures 27.8mm, this…

A Neolithic polished flint axehead roughout, probably dating to c. 4000-2400 BC. The axehead is made of a dark grey flint with frequent paler grey/brown patches and areas of cortex on the left edge of the dorsal face and the right edge of the ventral. The axehead is broadly sub-rectangular in shape, tapering from 47.7mm wide behind the blade edge to a squat, rounded sub-triangular butt, 29.1mm wide. It has a pointed oval cross section, at its thickest point around 3/4 of the way down its length at 27.8mm thick. The axehead is missing the edge of the blade itself, with a diagonal line …

A polished flint axe head dating to the early to mid Neolithic (c. 3500 - c. 2500 BC). The flint has a weathered and iron stained pale to mid-orange colour. It is roughly triangular in plan with a convex curved blade 52.5mm wide, tapering sides 97.9mm long and a broken butt which is now 22.5mm wide but clearly narrowed further originally. The sides taper continuously from the blade but the angle of taper sharpens slightly about half way along. As well as the broken butt there are some chips in the sides and chips along the blade edge. Although these chips are not recent it is hard to t…

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A tertiary flake of probable Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date, reworked for use probably as a scraper. The flake is an irregular quadrilateral shape. The ventral face is curved and smooth with evident ridges down its length due to a heavy strike. The striking platform is obscured by scars and losses due to flaws in the flint; the bulb is now unclear. The dorsal face has two major and two minor multi-directional removals giving it a broadly triangular cross section. There is possible retouch to the right hand dorsal edge/lefthand ventral edge for conversion into a basic side scrape…

A tertiary waste flake of probable Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date. The flake is an irregular quadrilateral shape with a diagonal break at the distal end. The ventral face is curved and smooth with evident ridges down its length due to a heavy strike. There is some bulbar scarring. The dorsal face is broadly flattened as a result of numerous multi-directional removals, some breaking off due to flaws in the flint, especially at the proximal end. There is no obvious retouching. The flake has a stained translucent orange/red colour with light-grey bands with a small area of cortex o…

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two retouched flakes of a dark grey flint, both of which retain their original white-buff cortex over the distal end. They are both sub-rectangular in shape with numerous flake scars across the two dorsal faces. The larger of the two shows a natural break on the right dorsal margin, where the flint has sheered off forming an almost straight edge, there is an area of long scalar semi-abrupt retouch adjacent to the break, possibly an attaempt to create a notch that was abandoned. The smaller of the two has a distinctive grey spot of patina in the centre of its ventral face and short, sc…
