Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Copper-alloy early post-medieval hooked tag with a central circular boss, trapezoid loop and complete hook. The central boss is 11.9mm in diameter, 2.3mm thick and worn; it has a outer, flat ring decorated with short radiating lines; the central raised section may be decorated with the letters 'ihs' (for Jesus), although this is too worn to be certain. The back of the boss is mostly flat with an off-centre slightly concave oval area. The attachment loop is trapezoid, 11.1mm wide where it meets the loop and 12.8mm wide at the outer edge, the bar itself is 1.5mm wide and 0.9mm thick. Th…

Object type: METAL WORKING DEBRIS
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A large lump of copper, it's rounded appearence suggests it has cooled from molton metal in a crucible or other mould. One side is almost flat, the top is domed and the sides rounded, it may originally have been oval as it appears to have been cut on one face, the cut is now worn. It may have been made on site or have been carried here for metal working. It is difficult to give this item an exact date although study of the composition might help, a date of Bronze Age - post-medieval has thus been given although it is likely to sit within the earlier part of this range. It is 38.8mm l…

Small gold appliqué decorated with curvilinear filigree wire. The plaque comprises a thin piece of sheet gold forming an extended rectangle in two decorative 'halves', with each of the shortest sides cut to form a 'V' shape. There is a small circular perforation at each corner, as well as an additional perforation below one of the corner perforations; other holes appear to be wear and tear. The appliqué is decorated with fine applied filigree wire, which forms a continuous border around the whole outer edge (although it is broken and missing in a few places). The inner part of the d…
