A cast lead seal matrix, circular and flat with a suspension loop in the centre of the reverse. The central motif is an eight pointed star with a pellet in each section, within a grooved border.
The inscription appears to read +S' R'ASEL FILL' . WILL NIChOL'- (Seal of Rasel? son or daughter of William Nichol). The first name has proved difficult to read or decipher, there being no obvious candidate ending in ...asel. There may be another letter between the R and the A, and it is possible that the R may in fact be a P. Apart from this, however, the matrix is easy to read and the nam…

Medieval (late 12th to 14th centuries) candle holder fragment: The copper alloy stand is in the form of a cockerel, The cockerel has a long slender neck and a simplistic head. The neck expands in width and depth and is undecorated. The neck leads to the slender body which is angled a 45° behind the neck and is oval in section, broken, thereby revealing the cylindrical element of the body. Two legs protrude from the junction of the neck and body. These are slender, slightly bowed, sub-rectangular in section and the feet are sub-oval discs.

A copper alloy damaged handle escutcheon from a Medieval or Post Medieval chafing dish, dating from about AD 1400 - 1600. The lug is 28.8mm long, 17.1mm wide and 7.1mm thick. It is a flat plate of metal which is uniformly 7.1mm thick. It is a sub-circular fitting with a sub-circular hole in it which has broken making it look like a hook. From one end projects a sub-triangular element which would have probably butted up against the vessel. A cylindrical projection from the end was probably the rivet fixing the escutcheon to the vessel.

A probable Medieval Irish silver coin: probably a penny of Edward IV (1461-1483); probably minted in Dublin. The coin is clipped and worn. The obverse shows a mullet to the right of the crown and indistinct symbols on each side of the neck. The reverse shows a long cross with a quatrefoil with a pellet in the centre and three pellets in each angle. The coin may well be a contemporary copy because the reverse legend looks to be a series of Vs and As or Ds rather than a normal legend. The pellets are also unconvincing.

An enamelled copper alloy disc or plaque, decorated with a picture of a woman's face and a incomplete border of pale blue enamel with the remains of some gilding. A copper alloy artefact, probably a coin of Medieval or Post Medieval date, about AD 1200 - 1500, probably of the Crusader Kingdom of Cyprus, maybe of James II dating from the late 15th century. One face bears a cross potent with a cross in each angle (the Jerusulem cross). The peripheral legend is illegible. The other face is possibly a rampant lion. The legend is again illegible, but may end GRAIA which would fit with a sizin such as that of James II (the Bastard), AD 1463 - 1473. The coin is 18.3mm in diameter and 1.4mm thick. It weighs 1.9g.

A copper alloy artefact, probably a strap fitting such as a strap union, or perhaps a harness fitting or mount. It probably dates from the Iron Age or Roman period, about 800 BC - AD 100.

An end scraper. There is long, parallel, abrupt retouch around the proximal end on the ventral face, removing the striking platform. There may also have been very short, abrupt retouch on the distal end to produce an irregular outline, although this may also be due to natural fracture when the flake was sruck from the core. Unlike with thumbnail or round scrapers the retouch covers only a small part of the circumference. The scraper was made on a secondary flake, c.5% cortex remains, with a prominent bulb of percussion. The flint is pale grey with mottled lighter grey inclusions. The s…
