An incomplete and unfinished cast lead seal matrix of Medieval, thirteenth century date (c. AD 1200 – c. AD 1300). Length: 55.0mm; width: 32.7mm and 12.4mm thick. Weight: 40.11g.
The seal is pointed oval in plan. Viewing an impression of the matrix the cast die shows an Evangelist (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) facing forwards and holding a Gospel to its left. Above the standing figure is a feature which appears to be a bird (probably a dove) with outstretched wings, a representation of the Holy Spirit. An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy pointed oval (vesica-shaped) personal seal matrix dating to the 13th century (1200-1300). The matrix is flat and the front is engraved with a central motif with a surrounding inscription. At the rear it has a central raised rib along the longitudinal axis. The suspension loop is now missing, with a scar at the top of the reverse, and the matrix is very worn.
