A silver Medieval halfgroat probably of Edward IV AD 1461-1470 (first reign). The halfgroat has been snapped in half rather than cut, and the break does appear to be old. The coin was minted in Canterbury and does not have any stops within the legends. Possibly North 1589.

It is, however, probably a Class 4b coin, minted between 1200 and 1204, during the reign of John (ref. North 1980: 178, no. 968/2). It measures 19.7mm in diameter, 0.3mm thick and weighs 1.35g.
