A gilded copper-alloy cloisonné brooch dating from the late Early Medieval period. The brooch is incomplete but is clearly of a type of cloisonné enamel brooch that was popular in England during the late tenth and early eleventh centuries AD. As it is incomplete it is a little difficult to determine for certain whether it falls within the flanged 'Colchester' type or the the lobed 'Saunderton' type of brooch (as distinguised by David Buckton in 'Late 10th and IIth century cloisonné enamel brooches' Medieval Archaeol 30, 1986, 8-18). A copper-alloy Roman sandal-sole type plate brooch, probably dating from the 2nd century AD. The plate is flat on top and takes the form of the sole of a sandal with a rounded heel and pointed toe. The front has a narrow raised border round the edge outlining a recessed area in the centre of the plate containg 9 raised circular 'nails'; five running down the centre and pairs to either side in the wider parts at the 'heel' and 'ball'. A cast copper alloy Anglo-Saxon saucer brooch, dating from the mid 5th to mid 6th centuries AD. The brooch is incomplete, missing some of the rim, the pin and part of the catch plate. The brooch has traces of gilding on the front with a raised design of a central circle surrounded by five running spirals or scrolled tendrils. The central decorative element from a circular enamelled brooch of late 10th to 11th century date (Saunderton type). The circular component is divided into a scrolling cruciform pattern with separate cells of red, blue and white glass made using a cloisonne technique set into a backing plate with integral raised sides. The rest of the brooch, catchplate and pin are missing. The brooch may have been gilded but there is no trace of gilding on this fragment.

The artefact consists of a cylindrical wing which would to hold the axis bar for the hinged pin. the axis bar is still visible within the wing, the wing has a number of horizontal incisions which are abraded. A Roman incomplete cast copper alloy devolved T-shaped brooch of local type with a expanded fan shaped head plate. The head has a D shaped plate with protruding lugs on the reverse to hold the pin bar in place, which is now lost. The bow has a rectangular cross section. Roman cast copper alloy oval plate brooch. The brooch has a slightly raised lip around the outer edge of the plate and a large raised oval cell in the centre. The outer lip does not appear to be deep enough to have once contained enamel. The central cell however probably held a glass inset. Traces of the material used to hold the insert in place is visible around the edge of the inner oval. There are possible traces of stamped design around the outer oval.
