An unusually large and decorative medieval silver annular brooch complete with pin and decorated with incised lines, inlaid niello and an inscription. The brooch is circular in cross section and, while weighty, the weight suggests it is hollow. There is a constriction at one point where the pin head is looped and corresponding slight wear on the opposite side of the ring, on the front where the pin point rests.
The front is decorated with four bands of decoration with plain areas between. The bands are evenly spaced around the ring with one starting adjacent to the pin constrict…

An incomplete Roman copper alloy developed T-shaped hinged brooch probably dating to AD75 - 150. Only the wings and upper part of the bow remain. The wings are chipped at each end but nearly complete and have a pattern across the front of a single incised diagonal line about halfway along and a pair of incised lines at the end. The broken ends are filled with white cement to hold the hinge bar. There is a slot through the centre of the back of the head in which the pin would have hinged. This is filled with iron corrosion, probably the remains of an iron pin.
The upper part of the …

A cast copper-alloy brooch, either a small shallow saucer brooch or a Suzuki Class B or C button brooch of early early-medieval date (5th - 6th century AD) with style I decoration. The brooch is circular and 18.15mm in diameter and weighs 2.23 grams. The rim is upturned and offset 1mm within this is a further concentric circle of raised copper that surrounds the central design. The raised rim and raised central design are both c.2mm thick. An incomplete copper alloy T-shaped bow brooch. The bow and a fragment of the pin only remain. The head of the pin is still attached to the bar in a notch between the wings. Roman copper alloy Hod Hill brooch probably of Hull type 62 or possibly 70C. It is in poor condition, with the hinged pin missing, broken head and damaged bow and catch-plate. There is a tiny patch of white metal coating remaining. The head is broken to one side of the slot for the hinge and the folded over section to hold the hinge is missing. The upper bow has two transverse ridges extending out wider than the rest of the bow, the lower one may extend into side knops but this is unclear due to wear. Below this is a distinct trapezoid panel, wider at the top, decorated with side knop…

A Roman copper-alloy Aesica variant brooch, dating from the 1st century AD.
The brooch would have been of the sprung variety, the wings taking the form of a horizontal cylinder, joined on the underside. At either end this cylinder curves upwards, terminating in a sub-circular setting, one of which contains traces of an unidentified white material. The iron axis bar is visible within a central slit in the underside of the wings. It is at this point that the now-missing pin would have been hinged. The arched bow has straight, parallel sides at the top, each edge marked by a vertical g…
