Object type: FIRE MARK
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Published
A decorative lead fire mark of 19th century date. It is square in form, flat and with some slight post-depositional damage to the edges. The back face is flat and undecorated although has a slight lip visible in places around its outer edge. The front face has extensive moulded relief decoration. Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Published
An incomplete and unfinished cast lead seal matrix of Medieval, thirteenth century date (c. AD 1200 – c. AD 1300). Length: 55.0mm; width: 32.7mm and 12.4mm thick. Weight: 40.11g.
The seal is pointed oval in plan. Viewing an impression of the matrix the cast die shows an Evangelist (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) facing forwards and holding a Gospel to its left. Above the standing figure is a feature which appears to be a bird (probably a dove) with outstretched wings, a representation of the Holy Spirit. Object type: STEELYARD WEIGHT
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published
A corroded and abraded cast lead object - probably a Roman steelyard weight. The object is broadly circular in plan with a large, corroded iron loop (L.: 23.3mm) off centre on its upper surface. The weight tapers to a broadly oval base (33.2 by 25.7mm); the sides taper to the short ends, while the long sides have been squashed. The base is flat enough for the weight to stand. The surface is now a light-grey/white colour with numerous scratches, dents and areas of cracking. Given its current mass it is unclear how this weight fits into the Roman weight-system.
