A four-part lead cloth seal dating from the early modern period, probably George I's reign, c. 1714-1727. Side 1: A bust facing right possibly of George I Side 2: A unicorn facing left, rampant, with a 2 below This is an alnage seal, that is a seal to show tax had been paid on the cloth. There is a close parallel in Egan (fig. 28 no.161) which is also George I. The number below the unicorn is the subsidy (tax) rate in pence paid on the cloth. Extremely worn enamelled cast copper alloy harness pendant dating from the medieval period, that is c. 14th century AD. It is extremely worn and very thin. The decoration can only be seen in corrosion products on the obverse surface. The reverse was probably undecorated. The loop at the top is worn away except for a fine, thin spike. It is composed of a quatrefoil plate with angular projections bearing an armorial device, the details of which are lost to corrosion but it appears to have contained a crowned capital letter W. Pendants of this type are seen as fourteenth century (Grif…

Fragment of a cast lead alloy pointed-oval or vesica-shaped seal matrix dating from the medieval period, that is the 13th/14th century. Only the lower half survives. The matrix would have read: [S' I]Oh'IS FIL WALT[ERI] This means it was the Seal of John, Son of Walter. There appears to have been a star or similar in the centre of the matrix and moulded ribs on the reverse. The suspension loop is missing along with the upper part of the matrix. NB: The find was not seen by the FLO. Images and findspot information were kindly supplied by the rally organiser.
