A cast copper-alloy artefact of medieval date: probably the terminal fragment from a tumbrel, or coin balance (c. 14th century AD). The arm is perpendicular to the rectangular terminal (tray) and has broken at the perforation that would have taken the axis bar. The arm is bent backwards and is broken at both ends of the perforation (L.: 8.8mm, W.: 4.7mm, Th.: 3.2mm). The tray is rectangular, thin and flat, apart from a moulding just below the loop. The matrix is of pointed oval shape, with a central longitudinal ridge on the reverse that terminates in a semi-circular suspension loop with a step down to the ridge (Max. Th.: 9.1mm). A probable cast copper-alloy element from a knife of medieval to post-medieval date. The object is convex, sub-rectangular in plan and sub-trapezoidal in profile. The corners are truncated and slightly rounded. The highest surface features a slot in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners (9.65 x 4.3mm). Although reminiscent of early-medieval pommels in shape the object shows no obvious means of attachment and seems therefore unlikely as a terminal. The broken bowl from a cast copper-alloy 17th-century post-medieval spoon. The handle and the majority of the bowl are missing, both from old breaks. The handle is rectangular in cross-section; on the lower surface it tapers to a point at its junction with the bowl. The surviving section of the bowl is shallow and has been bent upwards at the extant terminal, with breaks to each side. There is evidence on the bowl for a circular makers mark, central on the upper surface, which is now unclear but possibly a (Tudor) rose (as with SOM-7C2A26 on this database).
