Incomplete probably Medieval copper alloy clasp or buckle plate. The plate is formed from a single rectangular strip of metal folded back in half on its long axis to loop around the clasp or buckle frame. Three equally spaced rivets held the plate and strap together. The plate is not recessed at the edges and the hole adjacent to the looped end of the plate shows no significant sign of pin-wear, hence the preference for a probable clasp or strap tensioner function.
