Post Medieval, 17th century, cast copper alloy openwork mount with integral attachment spikes. The mount is flat and shaped into four lobes, two large pointed oval lobes alternating with two smaller circular lobes. The tip of one of the pointed oval lobes is lost, possibly to damage. The lobes have circular holes in the centre and there is a further hole in the centre of the mount; the holes in the pointed oval lobes join the central hole while those in the circular lobes are connected to it by an indent on the front. On the back are two integral spikes, one is complete and bent inwar…

Post Medieval mount dating to the 17th century for a leather item. The flat plate of the mount has a tri-lobed end with a narrowed waist underneath, the lobes each side being thin and curved out, one now bent forward at the tip. This waist then expands forming rounded shoulders before a constriction formed of indents coming in from both sides below which it expands again to a square plate with outwardly curved corners. Below the square is an incised line across the front then a wider collar with rounded ends and possibly a broken lower edge. On the back are two integral attachment s…

Post Medieval cast copper mount dating to the 16th or 17th centuries. The mount is in the form of a large circular boss with a projection to one side. The boss has a hollow back and convex front which rises in two steps to a central dome, between the first and second step is a double incised ring. The edges of the boss are irregular and slightly damaged but it seems probable there was only ever one projection. The projecting piece is in the form of an oval lobe with a smaller lobed terminal beyond, both are convex on the front and the larger lobe has a hollow back. From the back of th…

A broken and incomplete figurative copper-alloy mount of medieval date (c. 12th/13th century AD). The mount would probably have depicted a saint full length, by reference to similar items discussed below; only the upper half of the torso and the head survive. The figure is shown facing holding a book in their right hand, through which a rivet hole has been drilled. An old break has occurred below this, largely diagonal, but also having removed some of the right arm. The body of the object is sub-rectangular and convex. The head above is moulded and set forward of the mount. A nose and…

A corroded post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount of 17th to 18th-century date. It has a flat oval body. From each shorter end of the body protrude a slightly raised trefoil terminal and flared terminal respectively. Each terminal features a pair of crude grooves to delineate the designs. From the flat back emerge two integral prongs. These spring from circular bases at the trefoilate terminal and the junction of the body with the other terminal. Only stubs of the prongs survive; they appear to be of rectangular cross-section. This mount has corroded to a red/brown colour. Such mounts …

A corroded post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount of c. 17th-century date. It has a flat trapezoidal body with bevelled edges on its upper surface. From the narrower end of the body an initially wider triangular protrusion emerges. From the wider end of the body is an initially narrower circular protrusion. From the flat back two integral prongs would have emerged. One no longer exists; its attachment scar is located at the centre of the circular terminal. A prong emerges from one of the bases of the triangular terminal, as such completely off centre. The prong curves inward to the cen…

Post medieval copper alloy lozenge shaped mount or stud with integral rivet spike. The mount is an almost flat plate, very slightly D-shaped in cross-section with the obvserse slightly convex, and lozenge-shaped in plan, with bevelled edges. The front of the plate is so worn that any decoration that may have been present is now no longer visible due to mud and corrosion There is an integral rivet present on the mount located centrally on the reverse; this is bent over in line with the longer axis in the direction of an end point and ends in a blunt point. Towards this point, c3mm a…

Beteen the base of the 'wings' is a flat projecting triangular tab ending in an old break. There is a groove in each wing which would have been filled with enamel. Small fragments survive in the centre and were probably green or blue. The reverse is plain and the item has a green patina. The pin measures 17.49mm in length, 19.75mm in width and weighs 1.70g. It appears to be incomplete at t…
