The copper alloy matrix from the end of one arm of a Post-Medieval multi-armed seal matrix. The face of the matrix (the die) is broadly circular and inscribed with a design of a heart pierced by two arrows with drops of blood or tears above and to the sides and a probable crown or possible eye above; all within a engrailed border. From the back of the matrix rises the stub of a handle, the handle is circular in section with a district casting line running down the sides at 12 and 6 o'clock on the matrix. The handle now ends in an old break just above the matrix. It is 15.5mm in diameter and 7.9mm thick and weighs 4.49 grams.
SOMDOR240 found in the same area is related and probably from the same matrix.
Such multi-die matrices tend to be attributed a 17th-century date (see Read 1996, 152; no.1030, 1031) and have a different design on each die. See SOM-76F867 for a complete example.

Cast copper-alloy pedestal type seal matrix with a oval die from which rises the handle in the form of a flattened trefoil on a short, oval sectioned, stem. The upper loop of the trefoil is missing to an old break, the lower side lobes have roughly circular holes through them. The die has an incised design of the letters I C with a branching tree running between them and spreading out above and below them and no outer border. The die is 14.2mm by 13.6mm; the matrix is now 20.6mm tall; it weighs 3.43grams.
Various similar matrices are recording on the database and in Read (2001, 81) with a mix of designs including similar initials e.g. SUR-570184, BH-282B41 and SUR-D1E3C3 (a more elaborate silver version). They are thought to be 17th century in date.

Post Medieval copper alloy thimble formed by soldering copper alloy sheet into a long, slightly tapering cylinder with a separate domed top. The top and a part of the side are missing due to an old, very irregular break and the side has split along the seam, it is squashed inwards slightly at the base. The soldered seam is visible around the top and on the side. The sides are decorated with an irregular hand incised grid of lines leaving a strap work pattern, of two lozenges alternating with two pointed ovals, in reserve. There is a plain ring at the base. It is now 18.8mm by 15.3mm at the base, 15.8mm in diameter at the top, 22.7mm tall and 0.6mm thick; it weighs 4.02 grams.
This form of thimble was made c.1580-1650 AD in imitation of the silver thimbles of the period (Holmes 1988:2). The silver thimbles with similar strap-work designs, which are reported as Treasure, are more numerous on the database e.g. SOMDOR-1A2A02 and HAMP-7F8472 but copper alloy examples are also known e.g. LON-822C84 and NMS-4425B3.

Post Medieval, 17th century, cast copper alloy openwork mount with integral attachment spikes. The mount is flat and shaped into four lobes, two large pointed oval lobes alternating with two smaller circular lobes. The tip of one of the pointed oval lobes is lost, possibly to damage. The lobes have circular holes in the centre and there is a further hole in the centre of the mount; the holes in the pointed oval lobes join the central hole while those in the circular lobes are connected to it by an indent on the front. On the back are two integral spikes, one is complete and bent inwards at 90 degrees, the other is only a stub with the rest lost to an old break. It is 21.2mm long, 15.4mm wide, 1.1mm thick excuding the rivets, 4.9mm including and weighs 1.21 grams.

Post Medieval, 17th century, cast copper-alloy circular bridle boss. The boss is a hollow hemisphere, with an openwork design and a flat border around the edge. A break to one side has removed part of the border and one of the pair of rivet holes. The boss has a raised central knop, around which is the openwork main body, consisting of slim curving arms. The less worn arms are decorated with a scale like patten of raised semi-circles running down each arm and incised lines down their inner sides which continue at the base to meet the base of the next arm. Around this is a narrow ropework border. The outer flat border consists of roughly triangular projections with a repeating simple vegetal pattern of paired curved raised lines making heart shapes the points of which curve out and form trefoil terminals. This border includes one complete circular rivet hole with a second, 180 degrees from the first, mostly lost to the break.
It is 59.6 mm in diameter, 14.8mm thick and weighs 27.38 grams.

Post Medieval copper alloy double looped buckle. The frame is broadly rectangular in plan with the outer edges widening in width to pointed projections, forming triangular ends. The strap bar has a lobed knop at either end. Remains of iron corrosion on the strap suggests the pin, now missing, could have been made of iron. It measures 47.3mm in length, 23.7mm in width, 2.1mm in thickness and weighs 3.7g.
Whitehead (2003; 82) illustrates a similar example with a wider frame, no. 512, which is dated 1250-1700 AD.

Post Medieval cast, copper alloy oval buckle with surviving chape and pin. The frame is drilled and the strap bar is separate, although survives in situ on this example. The buckle frame has moulded decoration; raised vertical lines crossed with diagonal lines either end of the strap bar with scroll work to the sides. The chape is 'D-shaped' with the centre of the curve projecting into an elongated knop which has a raised stud at the end. It is a Whitehead (2003; 96) type I. The reverse of the chape has 'IOHN BRADNOCK' stamped. The pin is triangular in shape. The buckle measures 47.7mm in length, 29.7mm in width, 5.7mm in thickness (6.6mm with the chape) and weighs 11.7g.

Post Medieval silver sixpence of William III. The coin is very worn and one edge has been bent back and the other forward to create an 'S' bend in profile. This modification is often descibed as a 'love' token.

Post Medieval fragment of a copper alloy cast leg from a cooking vessel. The fragment is 'D'-shaped in section with a notched curved outer edge created by five ribs that run down the front. It measures 57.3mm in length, 46.6mm in width, 23.6mm in thickness and weighs 86.82g.
Butler, Green and Booth (2003; 4) suggests that legs such as these were widespread by the 17th century.

Post Medieval cast, copper ally double-looped buckle. The frame is a pointed oval in plan with open work detail. The frame widens on the outer edge to form the pointed oval. Within the centre of the widest point of the frame is an openwork lozenge. The strap bar is recessed and there is a probable openwork drop shape at either end although it is difficult to tell due to the amount of dirt remaining on this example. The frame is indented to either side of the strap bar at both the top and bottom. The pin is missing. It measures 42.7mm in length, 25.7mm in width, 2.3mm in thickness and weighs 5.01g.
Whitehead (2003; 69) has a similar example, number 434 which is dated to 1550-1650 AD.

A circular cast lead alloy weight of uncertain date with a trapezoidal cross section. A 'D' is stamped on one face and there is an incised line on the other. It is 23.8mm in diametre, 6.6mm in thicknes and weighs 27.82g. 0.98 ounces.
Plain weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards for a wide variety of uses and are hard to date precisely. This example is about an ounce in the avoirdupois system in use since the Medieval period suggesting a late Medieval - Post Medieval date.
