A fragment of a cast copper alloy strap fitting for a sword belt, dating to the Post-Medieval period. The fragment consists of the lower part of a shield-shaped plate with concaved sides and a rounded base with the stub of a hook projecting from the centre. The front face of the plate is decorated with a symmetrical foliage design in moulded relief. The design vaguely resembles leaves of the vine. The reverse is plain and undecorated. This type of fitting would have been attached to a scabbard strap. Read (2008: 219, no. 790) illustrates a similar mount which he dates to the 16th or 1…

There is a three-pronged crown design on each side between these open circles, with a central circular hole between for decoration. There is one rivet hole towards the base of the clasp that retains an iron rivet, the base is crenellated while the peak has a rounded knop which would have slotted into a clasp attachment, now missing. The obverse has three crowns and three lis arranged alternately around a central rose. The initial mark is a crown and the legend reads: ...]G BLIOA[.... The upper surface of the artefact is decorated with a raised symbol, possibly two letters joined together which could be CH or more likely HD. It seems that the symbol was a HD, where the vertical of the 'D' was also the right-hand vertical of the 'H' however it must be noted that the lower part of the letters, if this is what they are, have been worn or scraped away leaving just a faint mark visible today. These tokens were usually locally made with no references a…

Incomplete cast copper alloy hooked fitting of probable post Medieval date (c.1600-1700). The fitting has a flat oval body with a tapered hook folded under at one end and a broken attachment loop at the other end. The oval plate has ferrous corrosion in the centre of the upper surface and along the base of the underside which probably is probably the remains of an iron rivet. There is no discernible surface decoration. The hook possibly formed part of a sword belt and rough parallels can be found in 'Hooked Clasps & Eyes' by Brian Read, p.222.
