A corroded fragment from a cast copper-alloy hooked mount of post-medieval date. The fragment consists of the lower part of the mount, including the hook and the lower part below a rivet hole. Within this lower rivet hole corroded remains of an iron rivet. The sides of the mount are scalloped with rounded protrusions to the sides. The inward-turning hook has been bent slightly to one side as a result of old damage. The metal has corroded to a red-brown colour with larges areas of light-green and off-white corrosion product.

Medieval to post Medieval cast copper alloy probable swivel. The item consists of a central barrel like part with incised decoration with a cast circular hoop for attachment at each end. Although seemingly formed of two halves with a seam running around the middle of the barrel part there is presently no movement. The exact use of the item is uncertain and it is therefore classified broadly as a strap fitting. The fitting has been dated c.1400-1700.

A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy hooked mount of post-medieval date. The mount is sub-trapezoidal in plan with a cusped upper edge. It tapers towards the hook (now missing), widening slightly just above the hook; the mount has broken as the hook begins. The mount is broadly flat with slight bevelling on its upper surface. It features two iron rivets, one towards the upper edge, the other just below the centre of the plate. Much of the upper rivet survives corroded in place. The copper alloy is covered in an off-white corrosion product over a mid-green metal. Comparable hook…

Incomplete cast copper alloy hooked fitting of probable post Medieval date (c.1600-1700). The fitting has a flat oval body with a tapered hook folded under at one end and a broken attachment loop at the other end. The oval plate has ferrous corrosion in the centre of the upper surface and along the base of the underside which probably is probably the remains of an iron rivet. There is no discernible surface decoration. The hook possibly formed part of a sword belt and rough parallels can be found in 'Hooked Clasps & Eyes' by Brian Read, p.222.

Probably a strap fitting of cast copper alloy, bent over at one end. One end has a rectangular strip, bent over to form a crude hook; it is rectangular in section and appears complete. Below this hook is a raised collar on the front below which the object widens slightly before tapering in gradually and ending in a expanded oval knop at the foot. This lower section, the collar and below, is D shaped in section with a convex front and slightly concave back in the centre. The length is 47.5mm, the width is 8.8mm, and thickness is 3.8mm. The weight is 7.52 grams. It is probably Post m…

Cast copper alloy hooked clasp with openwork design. This is the hooked section of a two part clasp. The main plate is heart shaped with a trefoil opening in the centre. At the top projects a rounded knop containing the residue of an iron rivet in the centre. The lower point of the heart extends downwards and continues into a forward facing blunt hook. The top of the hook is flanked by projecting rounded knops with the residue of a second iron rivet between them. There is evidence of white metal coating, probably tinning. Length 55.3mm, width 21.7mm. Weight 8.49 grams. It is ide…

Post Medieval cast copper alloy sword belt fitting. It is roughly foliate in form, with incised decoration forming a leaf pattern. It has a trefoil shaped terminal at one end below which it narrows before widening to rounded shoulders about a third of the way down from which it tapers to the other end where there are two lugs flanking a forward projecting hook. The hook is oval in cross section and the terminal is lost to an old break. There are two circular fixing holes containing iron corrosion, one near the trefoil terminal and one above the hook. It is 52.6mm long, 22.6mm w…

Post-Medieval copper alloy snake shaped strap-fitting and ring. The S shaped fitting has a naturalistically modelled reptilian or bird like head at both ends, a double bar running around the middle of the fitting in low relief with further curvilinear features to either side; the details of which are worn. It is worn but there maybe traces of scales or decoration behind one head. The tip of one of the snakes head is touching the central part of its body and this has allowed for the retention of a ring. This is plain with a circular section and has a depression where the loop has rubbed…
