Fragment of a cast copper alloy two loop bucke. A rectangular section stem or shank which extends between two flat elements with, in so far as they remain, curved edges, and both bearing a rayed pattern of grooves converging on the stem. Rusty stains on the central shank hint at the former presence of a ferrous metal component. This identification was kindly offered by Laura Burnett, with confirmation of this offered by Rob Webley, who comments as follows: 'This looks like the pin bar of a post-medieval buckle, the rust from the missing iron pin. Cf. Whitehead (2003, 65; e.g. no. 402)…

Medieval or Post Medieval cast copper-alloy double loop buckle with plain undecorated oval loops and narrowed strap bar. The object is 25mm in length and 23mm at its widest point. It weighs 3.26g. A similar buckle is illustrated in Whitehead (2003:54, no.310) which he dates to circa 1500-1650 AD.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval double looped buckle dating to c.1550 to 1650. Ninety percent of one loop is missing to old breaks near the bar. The outside edge is sub-oval with knops on each outside corner and at the end of the bar, the inside edge is sub-oval. The front is bevelled both internally and externally. The pin is absent and the reverse is flat and undecorated.
