Post Medieval copper alloy token farthing minted for William Smith of Steyning, Sussex in 1667. Williamson Vol 3. p.1182, Sussex No.165. William Smith was a mercer. There is a reference, in Sussex Archaeological Collections 19 p.95, to a William Smith of Steyning who had an estate worth £20 seized by parliment in 1655 because the owner was either a Royalist or a Catholic (the ordnance covered both). This may or may not be the same person as issued the tokens but Williamson suggests it is.

A cast lead-alloy circular uni-faced token with three visible casting spruces at the cardinal points. The token has a raised design of the initial 'E' on one side, the other side is blank. It is 21.20mm in diameter, 1.85 mm thick and weighs 4.8 grams. Lead tokens were locally made and had a wide variety of uses; they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initials are thought to be Post Medieval in date, 1500-1850 AD.

Cast lead circular unifaced token. The obverse of the token is decorated with the raised initials G over GF or GE. The reverse is blank. The token is 24.8mm in diameter, 2.33mm thick and weighs 6.84 grams. Tokens with simple designs were very easy to make, had a range of uses and continued in use for a long period. The arrangement of initials in this format was common in 17th century for married couples, the upper initial indicated the surname and the lower initials the husband and wives first names, suggesting this token dates to that time.

A lead token of Post-Medieval date. Weight 57.01g (0.1257pounds or 2.0110 ounces), diameter 33.21mm, thickness 7.61mm. The upper surface of the artefact is decorated with a raised symbol, possibly two letters joined together which could be CH or more likely HD. It seems that the symbol was a HD, where the vertical of the 'D' was also the right-hand vertical of the 'H' however it must be noted that the lower part of the letters, if this is what they are, have been worn or scraped away leaving just a faint mark visible today. Seventeenth century traders token of Lewis Williams of Chester dating to 1667. Williamson (1889) and Dickinson (1984) catalogue a half penny of Lewis Williams of Chester but not a penny. It appears from the spacing of the words on the obverse that this token has been converted into a penny from a half penny (by removing the word HALF from between HIS and PENY, either by a change on the die or on the token. A copper-alloy post-medieval trader's token of the mid to late 17th century. The token is fairly worn and suffers from some corrosion so reading it is not easy. However, the obverse legend may read THO. CA[TTER]B[ANKE] and possibly [IN] LEITC[HFIELD] TC on the reverse, making it a token of Thomas Catterhanke, bailiff of Litchfield. A shield can be discerned in the centre of the obverse. It measures 17.1 mm in diameter, 1.1 mm thick and weighs 1.5 grams.
