A cast copper-alloy rectangular single-looped buckle of medieval to post-medieval date (c. AD 1400-1700). The buckle's rectangular frame has rounded corners on the outer edge. Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy four-way strap junction of post-medieval date. The piece is formed of four circular loops arranged around a central sqaure; one of the loops has broken through. The loops curve into the square's field. The central element is recessed apart from a central pellet, perhaps to take in inlay that has now been lost. While the upper surface is moulded the lower surface is flat. The piece has a red/brown colour with patches of light-green and off-white corrosion product. This, the form and finish, suggest a date for this piece perhaps in the 17th or 18th ce…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete post-medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame. Around a half of one of the buckle's loops has been broken away following old damage, with the outer edge gone completely and the sides surviving to differing extents above and below. The pin is also missing. The remaining oval loop is curved in cross-section due to a central recess between the sides of the buckle on the back. This is presumably a result of casting in an open, one-piece mould, whereby the metal has cooled and contracted. At the centre of the outer edge of the complete loop is an angled lobed kn…

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A corroded post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount of 17th to 18th-century date. It has a flat oval body. From each shorter end of the body protrude a slightly raised trefoil terminal and flared terminal respectively. Each terminal features a pair of crude grooves to delineate the designs. From the flat back emerge two integral prongs. These spring from circular bases at the trefoilate terminal and the junction of the body with the other terminal. Only stubs of the prongs survive; they appear to be of rectangular cross-section. This mount has corroded to a red/brown colour. Such mounts …

A corroded post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount of c. 17th-century date. It has a flat trapezoidal body with bevelled edges on its upper surface. From the narrower end of the body an initially wider triangular protrusion emerges. From the wider end of the body is an initially narrower circular protrusion. From the flat back two integral prongs would have emerged. One no longer exists; its attachment scar is located at the centre of the circular terminal. Incomplete cast copper alloy post medieval double loop buckle frame. 28.3mm long, 27.1mm wide, 2.5mm thick and 3.4 grams in weight. One loop has gone almost completely from old breaks.
