A Medieval copper-alloy British uniface weight for a half noble. The weight is circular and flat with a raised design on one side only. The design is of a sailing ship with fore and aft castles, central mast and ropes. There is a fleur de lis on the left of the mast and unclear lion on the right. It is 15.10mm in diameter, 2.23mm thick and weighs 2.58 grams, 39.6 grains. The metal is pitted in places, especially on the lower surface. A Medieval copper-alloy British uniface coin weight for a quarter noble dating from the 15th century. The weight is circular and flat with a raised design on one side only. The design is a sailing ship but abstracted so the lower part is simply a grid from which projects a central mast with diagonal ropes and a flag at the top. It is 10.5mm in diameter, 2.5mm thick and weighs 1.46grams, 22.6 grains. The metal is pitted in places, especially on the lower surface. A Post Medieval copper alloy coin weight of James I (AD1603-1625). The weight is flat and square in shape. The obverse has a bust facing right with the letters I R to left, inscription to right ilegible, all within a circle of pellets. The reverse shows a crown above the numerals XI for 11 shillings. The weight measures 14.98mm x 14.72mm is 3.17mm in thickness and weighs 4.34g, 66.8grains. Withers (2011:26) catalogues this type and suggests they are mainly British, he suggests (p.68-9) 11s would be for an Angel (71 grains in 1604-1619) or double crown (70.25grains in 1619 to 1657).…

Medieval copper alloy circular coin weight dating to AD 1412 to 1500, probably for a noble of the light standard. The weight is uniface, sub-circular in plan and rectangular in cross-section. The front depicts a ship with single mast flanked by a fleur-de-lis on the left and probably a muddled lion or sterncastle on the right, the reverse is plain. The weight has various cuts and abraded edges. The coin weight measures 17.3 mm in diameter and weighs 4.55 g, 70.2 grains. An extremely worn and corroded possible copper-alloy coin weight of medieval or post-medieval date. It is circular and seemingly decorated unifacially, although both surfaces are highly corroded. The upper face appears to depicts a ship. It has a rounded circumference. The design and size of this coin weight are consistent with it relating to a noble, if anything. Withers & Withers (1995, 18-19) illustrate these 15th- and 16th-century coin weights.

Cast copper alloy weight for a half Ryal (Rose Noble) or a Half Noble. The weight is circular and flat with a raised design on one side only. The design is of a ship with a rose on the side of the ship. It is 18.1mm in diameter, 4.6mm thick and weighs 6.55 grams. The centre of the weight has damage to both sides indicating possible re-use, the purpose of which is unknown. Ryals were only issued 1464-1470 AD although they circulated for longer; however later weights tend to be square so this example probably dates to 1464-1600 AD.

Post Medieval Coin Weight: Complete cast copper alloy coin weight. The weight is a square flat disc decorated on both sides. One side carries the design of a crowned rose with the letters EC to either side. the other side probably shows a scallop shell with the letters GG above. This coin weight was continentally produced for the English market. GG is the mark of Gerrit Greers of Amsterdam. The weight weights1ozt. This coin weight is dated to c.1600-1630.

On the reverse side, which is also very worn, is an angel spearing a dragon lying at their feet. This image is enclosed within a pellet circle. Medieval copper alloy coin weight for an Ecu a la chaise. It is square and unifaced, on the obverse is a square topped shield containing three Lis, the reverse is plain. It is 14.0 by 12.9mm and 3.2mm thick; it weighs 4.05g. This is lighter than the standard weight for an Ecu a la chaise but this is to be expected as a coin weights, are for the legal minimum rather than the average weight of a coin. Some weight may also have been lost to corrosion. This sort of weight was made in France and England between 1337-51 AD (Withers & Withers 1995, 39).
