A Medieval cast copper-alloy pedestal type seal matrix dating to the 14th century. The matrix face is sub-circular. The pedestal is faceted with six facets and thins as it rises before it widens slightly to a collar topped by a rounded terminal. Below the collar is an incised transverse groove that emphasises the collar. Above the collar there is a flattened crescent, ends upwards, within which the terminal sits. Fragment of a cast lead alloy pointed-oval or vesica-shaped seal matrix dating from the medieval period, that is the 13th/14th century. Only the lower half survives. The matrix would have read: [S' I]Oh'IS FIL WALT[ERI] This means it was the Seal of John, Son of Walter. There appears to have been a star or similar in the centre of the matrix and moulded ribs on the reverse. The suspension loop is missing along with the upper part of the matrix. NB: The find was not seen by the FLO. Images and findspot information were kindly supplied by the rally organiser.

The copper alloy matrix from the end of one arm of a Post-Medieval multi-armed seal matrix. The face of the matrix (the die) is broadly circular and inscribed with a design of a heart pierced by two arrows with drops of blood or tears above and to the sides and a probable crown or possible eye above; all within a engrailed border. From the back of the matrix rises the stub of a handle, the handle is circular in section with a district casting line running down the sides at 12 and 6 o'clock on the matrix. Medieval cast copper alloy pedestal type seal matrix with a circular face. The matrix has a central design of a cockerel standing facing right (left on the impression) within a plain line border. The legend starts at 3 o'clock (9 o'clock on the impression) with a star and reads CROV M[E] DAI (CROW ME DAY, I crow at daybreak).
