An Iron Age brooch of the La Tene IBb style (400-272 BC). The brooch is cast from a single piece of copper alloy. Half of the spring and all of the pin are missing. Only two loops of the spring remain on one side of the head. The bow has a semicircular arched profile and is oval in plan with a integrally cast valley running along the centre of the front. The foot with the catchplate is flat, level with the head. The catchplate is triangular, to one side of the foot and the outer edge curves up 90 degrees. One half, the hook part, of a 17th century cast copper alloy clothes fastener. The hook is a wide flat strip with a curved end bent forward 180 degrees, the tip of which is missing. The hook is attached to one end of an oval plate. The central area of the plate has a raised floral design within a triple line border. The hook is flanked by two circular attachment holes one on either sid and there is another single attachment hole at the opposite end, flanked by rounded knops. Possibly a cast copper alloy awl or tracer. About half the length is square-section (maximum 6mm across) and fairly even in width, the other half is rounded and narows gradually and terminates to a point. there is no obvious waist where the two sections join. 82mm long and weighs 9.4 grams. Plain copper alloy awls are hard to date precisely and this lacks the characteristic central thickening of some Bronze Age examples. Plainer examples are known however and as an artefact they were introduced in the Bronze Age (2150-800 BC) with most being Late Bronze Age in date (1150-800 BC).…

A complete post medieval copper alloy lace tag, constructed from a piece of sheet copper alloy, the long edges are folded over and then the sheet is rolled to form a tapering cylinder ending in a sharp point. The tag has been shaped in the form of a cattle horn and is very finely finished. There are no signs of damage and the condition is very good.
