A base sherd from a wheel thrown slip decorated Roman beaker. The fabric in medium grey-brown with abundant, c. 30% fine to medium sand temper, and some possible micaceous inclusions. The surface is coated with a thin, very dark grey slip. The sherd is triangular, and from the outer edge of a circular base. The straightness of the breaks perhaps suggests a certain deliberateness involved. A groove 0.7mm deep runs around the circumference of the base, following the curve of the edge 7.6mm in.
