Two fragments of ceramic building material, both roughly quadrilateral in form. They both have oxidised surfaces, one light orange, the other mid orange. They both feature yellowy inclusions and seams from where the clay has not been mixed fully. Respectively, they measure 55.9 by 48.7 by 12.0mm and 74.55 by 36.6 by 12.4mm; a combined weight is given below. They are plausibly medieval in date given their thickness, although a Roman date ought not to be ruled out.

Two sherds of Roman greyware, a base sherd and a rim sherd. Both sherds have a medium grey-brown fabric with abundant, c. 30% fine sand temper. The base fragment has only a small part of the base on it but shows the convex wall rises from the flat base at about sixty degrees. The rim fragment has an everted rim, possibly from a jar, with a slightly widened and flattened top ending in a slightly rounded outer edge. It is too short and irregular to estimate the original diameter (L.: 57.1mm). They weigh 28.08 grams together.

A rim sherd probably from a medieval cooking pot (c.1100 - c. 1400 AD). It has a pale grey-brown silty fabric with c. 15 - c. 20% medium quartz temper; the inclusions have leached out slightly on the surfaces. The piece has a rolled over rim projecting at ninety degrees on the outer face (Th.: 12.45mm); below the edge it has a slightly concave inner side and convex outer. It is too small and irregular to identify the original diameter.

A rim sherd from a later Iron Age coarseware jar dating from approximately 300 BC - AD 100. The jar has a slightly outward turned rim with a flat top and rounded outer edge. Below the short rim the body curved outwards at c.45 degrees. Not enough of the rim remains to estimate the diameter as it is slightly irregular but it indicates a large vessel. The relatively hard fired fabric is only slightly scratched by a finger nail and has a mid-brown core and a dark-brown to black surface with burnishing on the outer side and rim. The fabric has abundant (c.25%) angular flint temper of c. 2…

A base sherd from a wheel thrown slip decorated Roman beaker. The fabric in medium grey-brown with abundant, c. 30% fine to medium sand temper, and some possible micaceous inclusions. The surface is coated with a thin, very dark grey slip. The sherd is triangular, and from the outer edge of a circular base. The straightness of the breaks perhaps suggests a certain deliberateness involved. A groove 0.7mm deep runs around the circumference of the base, following the curve of the edge 7.6mm in. There is a similar but wider and deeper groove on the outer side of the vessel 7.5mm up from t…

One rim sherd from a Roman grog-tempered dropped-flange bowl. The fabric is medium grey with abundant grog temper and darker grey surface. The rim is plain with a triangular sectioned projecting flange on the outer side below the rim. It is too small to estimate the diameter, has abraded breaks and weighs 6.47 grams. In Hampshire tempering with grog was common in the second half of the 4th century, although was known earlier.

A fragment from a tile probably of Roman date. One original short edge survives with the others all broken in antiquity. The flat upper surface has a semicircular arc at the intact edge. The lower surface is rougher, presumably for adhesion. The fabric is badly sorted with areas of different colured clay; the tile light-orange in colour overall.

A group of seventeen fragments of tile of Roman date. The thickest (up to 33.2mm) have oxidised pale-orange outer surfaces and grey cores. Others are more consistently orange all the way through, but all are badly sorted, with the clays producing some lighter flecks. A combined weight is given below.

Two rim sherds from Roman drop-flanged bowls made in sandy greyware. The fabric is pale grey with abundant fine sand temper with very small stone inclusions. Sherd 1 (upper on photo): plain rim and slightly upward projecting flange with rounded outer edge on outer side below rim, damage to rim makes estimating the diameter difficult, W.: 23.00g Sherd 2 (lower on photo): plain rim and downward curved flange on outer side, below rim; straight sided bowl estimated at c. 220mm in internal diameter, W.: 27.67g A combined weight is given below
