Five flakes of chert debitage, part of a larger group of debitage, see also: SOM-16F496; SOM-1763D4. A largely blade based technology of proabable Mesolithic date, c. 9000-4000 BC.
All five flakes are of a dark red, opaque chert, three being tertiary, with no surviving cortex and the other two being secondary, with flake A1 exhibiting cortex on both the Dorsal and ventral face at the proximal end (c. 5-10%), and flake A2 exhibiting cortex (c. 10-15%) at the distal end of the dorsal face only. Bulbs of percussion survive on flakes A1 and B1, the latter exhibiting a bulbar scar, all …

A collection of 8 flakes of flint debitage, part of a larger group (see also: SOM-16F496; SOM-18BA22), of largely blade technology and of probable Mesolithic date, c. 9000-4000 BC.
Of the flakes four are secondary and four tertiary, with cortex surviving on flake A1 (Distal end, dorsal face: c. 10-15%, Ventral face: c .5-10%), A2 (Distal end, dorsal face: c. 10%), A3 (Proximal end, left edge, dorsal face: c.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A collection of eight pieces of flint and chert debitage of Mesolithic to Early Bronze Age date (c. 6000 - 1500 BC). Two of the pieces, have been struck off a secondary flake, retaining between 5 and 50% of their cortex, while the rest have been struck off a tertiary flakes retaining no cortex.
Two of the pieces, both flint, are in the form of a blade with three negative flake scars, on the dorsal face, and low diffuse bulbs of percussion with weakly defined conchoidal ripple marks on the ventral face. The remaining pieces conist of three 'blade like flakes', which lack the paral…

A flint flake of Mesolithic to Bronze Age date (c. 9000-2350 BC). It is broadly retangular in shape, and is has been struck off a tertiary flake as no cortex remains. The dorsal face, has two parallel negative flake scars from the removal of previous flakes in the form of blades or bladelets. The ventral surface also has widely spaced conchoidal ripple marks, but does not retain the striking platform or bulb which is now missing due to old breaks.
The flint is dark grey in colour with several lighter grey and cream speckled inclusions. It is 26.64mm in length with a maximum width o…
