A Late Iron Age/early Roman (AD20-80) copper-alloy Colchester two-piece brooch, incompletein so far as it is missing the elements of its catch-plate, and much of its pin. The wings are short, flat and rectangular. Behind the wings is a hook that curves upwards to retain the axis bar, and, above this, an integral hook curved back on itself to retain the chord. The central decorative element from a circular enamelled brooch of late 10th to 11th century date (Saunderton type). The circular component is divided into a scrolling cruciform pattern with separate cells of red, blue and white glass made using a cloisonne technique set into a backing plate with integral raised sides. The rest of the brooch, catchplate and pin are missing. The brooch may have been gilded but there is no trace of gilding on this fragment.

A copper-alloy early-medieval cloisonné brooch dating to the late 10th or 11th century. The brooch has seven peripheral lugs of which five survive, one of which retains a domed blue glass insert. The front of the brooch has a raised circular insert that fits into the hollow rimed section of the lugged disc. The central insert is ornately enamelled with a design of a six-spoked wheel or star.
