An incomplete copper-alloy stud or mount of unceratin date, Iron Age to Post Medieval.
This stud is circular in plan with a highly domed hollow head being convex on top and concave beneath. The dome's edge is slightly damaged on one side, while its upper surface is abraded and pitted. An integral spike projects from the centre of the inside of the dome and extends for 12.8mm before terminating in a rounded and abraded end. This spike is sub-circular in cross section (4.7mm diameter).
The stud is a light green colour and the dome is filled with concreted soil material.
The stu…

A complete copper alloy decorated stud, possibly Roman. The head of the stud is broadly circular, with a mostly flat top. In the centre of the top is a slightly raised circle upon which is an incised circular line border 10.31mm in diameter. Within the border is an inscribed eagle, with outspread wings, the tips of which meet the circular line border but do not ingress upon it. The back of the head is slightly convex towards the integral shaft which is complete. The shaft itself is rectangular in section, thinning along its length to a flattened and slightly expanded rounded point.

A fragmentary stud with copper-alloy globular head and beginnings of an iron shank, possibly Roman in date. The head is broadly spherical. The iron shank seems to be circular in cross-section; the exact way these two elements are joined is obscured by corrosion. From the weight the head appears solid and is 12.5mm in diameter with a flattened top. Below, the corroded remains of an iron shank, c. 2.7mm diameter, are vestigial and corroded.
Similar large spherical headed studs or nails are recorded in Crummy (1983, 115; fig. 116) from Roman contexts, although those had copper alloy sh…

Cast copper alloy stud attached to a broadly rectangular copper alloy sheet rove. The stud has a flattened sub-circular head and a blunted, twisted shaft of square cross-section. The rove is closely fitted to the head of the stud and the centre is convex. The metal is dark red-brown in colour with patches of off-white and light-green corrosion product. The date is uncertain although it is probably Roman or Post Medieval in date; this is supported by finds made in the vicinity. The rove is 13.5mm long, 11.0mm wide and 1.1mm thick excluding the stud shaft, 11.7mm including. It weighs 2…
