An incomplete late Iron Age copper alloy Nauheim-derivative brooch of expanded bow form (Feugère 1985 type 11a). The bow and most of the catchplate survive. The bow retains about six centimetres of the spring at the head. The coils of the spring and the integral pin have been lost to an old break. The upper part of the bow consists of a circular dome, convex at the front and concave at the rear (17.6mm in diameter and 5mm deep). A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester one-piece brooch of Late Iron Age or early Roman date (1st century AD). At the head, the wings are plain flat rectangular pieces with rounded outer ends (18.0mm in total width). From the centre of the underside of the head projects an upper bar which is bent round on itself to meet the front of the bow creating a loop to hold the external chord; this is flat to the bow beyond the chord. An Iron Age brooch of the La Tene IBb style (400-272 BC). The brooch is cast from a single piece of copper alloy. Half of the spring and all of the pin are missing. Only two loops of the spring remain on one side of the head. The bow has a semicircular arched profile and is oval in plan with a integrally cast valley running along the centre of the front. The foot with the catchplate is flat, level with the head. The catchplate is triangular, to one side of the foot and the outer edge curves up 90 degrees.
