An incomplete Iron Age La Tene IBa type brooch dating to the period c.400 - 275 BC. The majority of the brooch survives it missing only its head and integral sprung pin. The brooch is broken at the head with only a small part of the circular cross sectioned wire of the spring remaining running vertically down for c.2mm before arching steeply upwards from the head into the bow. Iron corrosion around this area suggests there may have been an iron cross bar. The bow expands into a D-shaped cross section with a flat back and convex front. Despite being mostly abraded smooth there are f…

A copper alloy pommel from a sword or dagger in the shape of a human bust dating to the later Iron Age (150-50 BC). The bust is moulded in three dimensions, beginning just below the shoulder line, with the point where the thick neck and shoulders meet emphasised with a cast thick line, possibly intended to represent the neckline of a garment. The neck tapers slightly but remains thick at the point where it meets the head. The chin is broad and bearded, with the point of the beard emphasised, giving the chin a somewhat bulbous appearance. The beard continues up to the ears on either…

A copper alloy pommel from a sword or dagger in the shape of a human bust dating to the later Iron Age (150-1 BC). The bust is moulded in three dimensions, with the lower edge of the shoulder line demarcated by an incised groove which runs around both sides of the object. The bust ends here, at approximately the point of the clavicle. Iron staining on the sides of the shoulder appear to be from the end of the sword rather than expansions at the sides. Directly below this is a sub-rectangular attachment, much marked by iron decay, where the pommel would once have attached to the sw…

An incomplete late Iron Age copper alloy Nauheim-derivative brooch of expanded bow form (Feugère 1985 type 11a). The bow and most of the catchplate survive. The bow retains about six centimetres of the spring at the head. The coils of the spring and the integral pin have been lost to an old break. The upper part of the bow consists of a circular dome, convex at the front and concave at the rear (17.6mm in diameter and 5mm deep). The dome is decorated with an incised downward pointing triangle with concave sides (tricorne), within a circle. The circle is almost as big as the dome …
