A large lump of copper, it's rounded appearence suggests it has cooled from molton metal in a crucible or other mould. One side is almost flat, the top is domed and the sides rounded, it may originally have been oval as it appears to have been cut on one face, the cut is now worn. It may have been made on site or have been carried here for metal working. It is difficult to give this item an exact date although study of the composition might help, a date of Bronze Age - post-medieval has thus been given although it is likely to sit within the earlier part of this range. Knapped flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating from the Late Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC - c.1150 BC). The arrowhead is bifacially worked and an elongated triangle in plan, with two notches in the base, between a central tang and a barb at either side. The point has broken away. One barb has also been lost, the other is small with a rounded end. The tang is relatively large and now rectangular as the end has broken away. Circumstances of Discovery: On the 12th July, two side-looped palstaves, and one socketed hammer were found. The hoard was found on the side of a ditch on pasture land, in North Somerset. Description: 1. Copper alloy side-looped palstave, Transitional Type. The palstave has high petal shaped flanges, and three ribs which run from the centre of the stop ridge, and end approximately a quarter of the way down the blade in a triangular/trident shape, roughly parallel to the end of the side-loop. Possibly a cast copper alloy awl or tracer. About half the length is square-section (maximum 6mm across) and fairly even in width, the other half is rounded and narows gradually and terminates to a point. there is no obvious waist where the two sections join. 82mm long and weighs 9.4 grams. Plain copper alloy awls are hard to date precisely and this lacks the characteristic central thickening of some Bronze Age examples. Plainer examples are known however and as an artefact they were introduced in the Bronze Age (2150-800 BC) with most being Late Bronze Age in date (1150-800 BC).…

A collection of six retouched chert flakes of probable Bronze Age date (c.2350-1600 BC) . Two of the flakes, are tertiary retaining no cortex, while the remaining pieces retain between 5 and 25% of their cortex. All of the ventral surfaces, have large bulbs of percussion and strongly defined, closely spaced conchoidal ripple marks idicative of the use of a stone hammer. A Bronze Age retouched flint, probably a scraper dating to the period c. 2350-800 BC. The artefact is struck off a secondary flake, as the dorsal surface retains 25%of its cortex, it is broadly triangular in cross section and ovoid in shape. The bulb of percussion on the ventral face has been almost removed by bulb scarall the edges.
