An incomplete Medieval silver penny of John (1199-1216) dating to AD 1207 to 1210. Short cross class 5c. Minted by Beneit in London. North (1994, 221) no. 971 and Mass (2001, 40 & plate 63) The coin has broken (rather than been cut) in half, only one half is present, and a small piece has come off the remaining half.

An incomplete Roman cast copper alloy Colchester Derivative Dolphin or possibly Polden Hill type brooch, c.43-100 AD, with spring mechanism and probably a rearward facing hook, now missing. The head was formed of two C-sectioned wings creating a continuous half cylinder, these are now 17.9mm wide and very worn. The tips are bent backwards suggesting slight end caps although probably not large enough for a Polden Hills type attachment method. The tops are corroded and any decoration unclear. An incomplete Roman copper alloy developed T-shaped hinged brooch probably dating to AD75 - 150. Only the wings and upper part of the bow remain. The wings are chipped at each end but nearly complete and have a pattern across the front of a single incised diagonal line about halfway along and a pair of incised lines at the end. The broken ends are filled with white cement to hold the hinge bar. There is a slot through the centre of the back of the head in which the pin would have hinged. A copper alloy fragment of a Roman Aesica brooch, dating to c. AD. 60-90. This fragment consists of the upper section of the high arched bow, wings and part of the crest. At the head of the bow are the wings that are semi-circular in cross-section and have a diameter of 3.9mm and a width of 21.1mm. The circular end caps are broken and the spring and the central bar it was wound around are missing as is the pin. A Post Medieval copper alloy coin weight of James I (AD1603-1625). The weight is flat and square in shape. The obverse has a bust facing right with the letters I R to left, inscription to right ilegible, all within a circle of pellets. The reverse shows a crown above the numerals XI for 11 shillings. The weight measures 14.98mm x 14.72mm is 3.17mm in thickness and weighs 4.34g, 66.8grains. Withers (2011:26) catalogues this type and suggests they are mainly British, he suggests (p.68-9) 11s would be for an Angel (71 grains in 1604-1619) or double crown (70.25grains in 1619 to 1657).…

A Medieval copper alloy harness pendant dating to cAD1200-1400. The object is in the shape of a flower with a central circular plate and six projecting lobes. On the central plate is depicted a raise, moulded human head with straight hair on either side almost to chin length. There are remains of blue enamel to the left of the head and traces of red to the right. Each lobe has on the front an oval shaped raised knop. From the uppermost lobe extends an integral loop. A fragment of a Roman finger ring probably dating to the first or second century. Only the bezel of the ring survives. The bezel of the ring is sub-rectangular in plan with slightly rounded corners and also sub-rectangular in cross section, with a slight curve seen on the inside edge to allow a more comfortable fit. Projecting from two narrow edges are small fragments of the rings shoulders each surviving for less than 2mm. These fragments are thinner than the bezel and are also sub-rectangular in cross section. The strap fitting is made of a rectangular strip (c. 5.6mm wide) that is sub-oval in cross section with a slightly flatter lower surface. One end of the strip expands into an circular terminal (c.10.4mm diameter), from the back of which projects a conical lug, whose diameter narrows from 4.6mm at its base to 2.8mm at its rounded point.
