Roman cast copper alloy oval plate brooch. The brooch has a slightly raised lip around the outer edge of the plate and a large raised oval cell in the centre. The outer lip does not appear to be deep enough to have once contained enamel. The central cell however probably held a glass inset. Traces of the material used to hold the insert in place is visible around the edge of the inner oval. There are possible traces of stamped design around the outer oval. A corroded fragment from a Roman copper-alloy openwork folding knife or razor handle, of the 'hare and hound' type.
