Incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of initial T-shaped type. The head has two short, tubular wings with a central slot in which the pin head hinges. A wire, probably copper alloy, runs through these wings; white paste visible in the end of one wing is probably solder holding it in place. The wings have two incised lines at the ends, one wing has suffered a small amount of damage so that only one line remains. The head of the pin is a copper alloy plate, with a piercing to allow the wire within the wings to pass through, securing it in place and allowing it to hinge. This plate …

The ventral surface is smooth and relatively flat; the strikes come in at an angle; the bulb of percussion is absent. The dorsal face is bevelled on all sides, more shallowly towards the distal end where the bevelled area widens, and very haphazardly at the proximal end due to frost fracturing. There is some retouching to the distal end. The flint is a mid- to light-grey/brown colour. The relative crudeness of this gunflint suggests that it may have been a replacement generated in the field.
