Probably a Medieval or post medieval cast lead alloy cup weight from a set of nested weights, dating to c. AD 1300-1600.
The weight was originally open in profile, having a circular base with the sides flaring up to a wider rim. It has been compressed and one side is now folded inwards, although the original base area remains relatively unaffected. The flat rim surface itself is decorated with a motif of repeated raised circles, which continue around the full circumference. No other decoration survives, but a possible attachment point is visible on the flat side, where two circular…

County: Solihull
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Medieval (late 12th to 14th centuries) candle holder fragment: The copper alloy stand is in the form of a cockerel, The cockerel has a long slender neck and a simplistic head. The neck expands in width and depth and is undecorated. The neck leads to the slender body which is angled a 45° behind the neck and is oval in section, broken, thereby revealing the cylindrical element of the body. Two legs protrude from the junction of the neck and body. These are slender, slightly bowed, sub-rectangular in section and the feet are sub-oval discs.

Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An abraded Medieval cast copper alloy seal matrix dating to CE 1200-1350. The seal matrix is flat and pointed oval (vesica shaped) in shape. The central design appears to be a circular or oval domed shape. This interior of this feature is abraded making its depiction unclear. There appears to be 3 vertical lines running across a portion of this dome. There might also be two lines running tangentially from the edge of the dome towards the edge of the matrix's inscription. Probably a scallop shell with curved edge downwards, a popular Medieval motif but uncommon on seal matrices. Other …

Post-medieval copper alloy pot leg and foot dating to c. AD 1500 to 1700. The leg is D-shaped in cross section with a flat back and a convex front. Any trace of ribs on the outer face is now unclear. A Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative developed T-shaped brooch, probably dating to c. AD 80-160. Only the head and upper part of the bow of the brooch survive. The wings measure 20.98mm in width and are rectangular with an integral projecting cylindrical bar across the back to hold the hinge (now mostly missing and abraded) and a sub-rectangular slot cut into the centre of the reverse to accommodate a hinged pin. Areas of iron corrosion suggest the hinge bar and possibly the pin were iron.
The bow is D-shaped in section. There are worn traces of a broken integral headloop at …

A copper alloy pommel from a sword or dagger in the shape of a human bust dating to the later Iron Age (150-50 BC).
The bust is moulded in three dimensions, beginning just below the shoulder line, with the point where the thick neck and shoulders meet emphasised with a cast thick line, possibly intended to represent the neckline of a garment. The neck tapers slightly but remains thick at the point where it meets the head. The chin is broad and bearded, with the point of the beard emphasised, giving the chin a somewhat bulbous appearance. The beard continues up to the ears on either…

An incomplete Medieval silver halfpenny of Richard II (AD 1377-1399) or Henry IV (AD 1399-1413), probably dating to AD 1390-1412 or uncertain type and unclear mint.
The legend on the reverse has been lost through clipping or wear, and there is a break at a chord that loses about a quarter of the circumference The proposed dating is based on the style of crown, the relative narrowness of the jaw-line and the presence of ANGLIE in the obverse legend, as opposed to an abbreviated form. London Mint. Withers & Withers (2002: 51 and 2003: 20-21).
