Rim sherd of Roman Poole-Wareham Black Burnished ware (BB1), 100-410 AD. The sherd has a dark inner and outer surfaces and a slightly lighter inner core. Extensive burnishing on the inner and outer sides. The fabric is fairly coarse, with the distinctive cods-roe fracture. It is tempered with abundant rounded quartz (less than 2mm), occasional rounded shale (less than 2mm) and possibly some very small fragments of flint. The rim is plain with a rounded top, slightly angled on the inner side, the sides slightly convex, it is too small to estimate the diameter, 13.72 grams. T…
