A medieval gilded and enameled copper alloy mount dating to c. AD 1150-1300. The mount is T-shaped in plan and flat in section and at its centre is a gilded engraving of the eagle of St. John. The eagle is halo'd with its head looking left and the tips of both wings pointing to the right. Additional detail has been incised into the gilding, with the outline of the eagle and its halo further defined in this fashion. Incised lines are also used to define feathers, with long lines on the wings and pocks on the neck and breast. The beak, eye and nostril of the eagle have also been defined…
