A small medieval copper alloy annular buckle, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1400. The frame is broadly circular in plan, although with a very slightly offset bar showing sings of wear from the copper alloy sheet pin. The pin survives, but has been displaced around the frame. The frame is sub-circular in cross section. Dimensions: length 12.9mm; width 14.4mm; thickness 4.1mm; weight 1.15g. Part of a copper alloy Post Medieval trapezoidal buckle dating to cAD1620 - 1680. Only one loop of the double loop buckle remains. The outer edge is expanded into a triangle in the centre, flanked by points at each corner. On the front of the outside edge there is an incised line running from top to bottom. The front has traces of a silvery sheen but the back is plain. The buckle measures 17.46mm in length, 11.90mm in width and weighs 1.26g. Whitehead (2003: 83, nos. 520, 522) publishes similar examples which he dates to c. 1620-1680, although the author does not elaborate on how…

Medieval copper alloy buckle plate, length: 39 mm, width: 28 mm, thickness: 6 mm, weight: 12.85 grams. The object is sub rectangular in form and cross section and is incomplete. Its major component is a sheet which has a central rectangular hole. The sheet has been folded over itself so that the hole is positioned on one edge (forming a central pin hole and allowing the plate to be secured onto one edge of a buckle frame) The sheet is plain on one side and decorated on the other side with a series of short parallel lines which run along each side of the hole (horizontally as shown)…

It weighs 3.38g Whitehead (2003:74) illustrates a very similar example, no.455 which he suggests are 'mainly AD 1570-1700' in date with no evidence given. An incomplete post-medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame. Around a half of one of the buckle's loops has been broken away following old damage, with the outer edge gone completely and the sides surviving to differing extents above and below. The pin is also missing. The remaining oval loop is curved in cross-section due to a central recess between the sides of the buckle on the back. This is presumably a result of casting in an open, one-piece mould, whereby the metal has cooled and contracted. At the centre of the outer edge of the complete loop is an angled lobed kn…

A rectangular section stem or shank which extends between two flat elements with, in so far as they remain, curved edges, and both bearing a rayed pattern of grooves converging on the stem. Rusty stains on the central shank hint at the former presence of a ferrous metal component. This identification was kindly offered by Laura Burnett, with confirmation of this offered by Rob Webley, who comments as follows: 'This looks like the pin bar of a post-medieval buckle, the rust from the missing iron pin.
