Incomplete copper alloy trumpet brooch. Pin missing. Behind the head is a large thin loop which projects longitudinally to house the missing coiled pin . The back of the head is oval and hollowed. The head tapers sharply to the knop at the middle of the bow. The head is decorated with enamelling in a symmetrical design around the longitudinal axis. Cast copper-alloy pedestal type seal matrix with a oval die from which rises the handle in the form of a flattened trefoil on a short, oval sectioned, stem. The upper loop of the trefoil is missing to an old break, the lower side lobes have roughly circular holes through them. The die has an incised design of the letters I C with a branching tree running between them and spreading out above and below them and no outer border. Medieval cast copper alloy pedestal type seal matrix with a circular face. The matrix has a central design of a cockerel standing facing right (left on the impression) within a plain line border. PRINCIPI-IV-VENTVTIS Prince standing facing, head left in military dress, holding standard in each hand. Minted at Lyon. RIC VI, p. 264, no. 299. The coin has a patch of silver metal visible at 4 o'clock on the obverse.
