Cast lead piece, probably a plain weight.. It is conical with a circular base, tapering sides and an irregular, broken top. There are numerous cuts and indents in the side. It is 49.8mm tall, 23.3mm in diameter at the base; it weighs 96 grams. Plain lead weights were made locally for a wide range of uses. They are therefore hard to date accurately and can be Roman - Post Medieval in date although most are from the latter part of this range.

There are numerous cuts and indents on the base and sides. It is 51.7mm long, 36.8mm wide, 17.5mm thick and weighs 179 grams. Plain lead weights were made locally for a wide range of uses. They are therefore hard to date accurately and can be Roman - Post Medieval in date although most are from the latter part of this range.

Post Medieval cast copper alloy trade weight from the reign of James I (1603-1625). The weight is circular with a wide raised rim on the top. It is 21.9mm in diameter by 3.2mm thick and weighs 2.95 grams, c. 0.20 ounces (one fifth). It is stamped with: Crowned I (for James I) at 7 o'clock The sword of St Paul (for London) at 5 o'clock An inverted ewer (for the founders company) at 1 o'clock

Cast lead vessel repair (pot mend). Oval with two irregularly shaped outer sides joined by a smaller central section. In the groove created between the outer sides there are traces of the original pot. The pottery appears to be of sandy dark orange fabric. It is 36.8 mm by 32.6mm, 10.2 mm thick and weighs 48.07 g. Pot mends of this form are found in both Roman and Medieval periods, as a common way to repair broken pottery. The remains of the original pot seem to be Roman in date although it is too fragmentary to be completely certain.

Copper alloy vessel repair formed of two broadly rectangular pieces of copper alloy sheet with irregular, broken edges. They are held together by three folded copper alloy sheet rivets, probably of the 'folded lozenge style which was popular in the Medieval period. The fragment measures 59.3mm in length, 18.7mm in width and is 4.9mm at its thickest point. It weighs 12.42 grams.

Rim fragment from a copper alloy vessel, probably of a type used for cooking. The fragment is 39.7mm long, 43.7mm wide, 3.6mm thick in the body and weighs 34.3 grams. The rim flares outwards at an angle of 120 degrees to the body and has an uneven edge. The rim is 10.4mm wide at the widest 4.2mm thick. The curve of the rim suggests the original vessel had a diameter of 24cm. There are traces of sooting on the outside, suggesting a cauldron or other cooking vessel.

A cast copper alloy pot leg and foot fragment. 45.1mm long, 30.7mm wide, 21.4mm thick and weighs 101 grams. The fragment is heavily worn but appears to be angled at about 60 degrees. The back is plain. The front has two vertical grooves creating a slightly tri-bobed appearence; just below the top is a raised horizontal band with a semi-circular profile. The top is smooth with slight grooves rather than broken and has a central raised, rough section that may have held a rivet. There appears to be traces of sooting on the foot, this, and its size, suggests it may come from a cooking vessel.

Lozenge shaped cast copper alloy terminal from a larger item. It is oval in section with rounded edges and slightly convex upper and lower faces. At one end the piece comes to a point, at the other it ends in an old break, 4.9mm across. There is an indent in the centre of one side next to the break, this may be deliberate or damage. Length 25.8mm, width 10.8mm, thickness 3.4mm. Weight 3.56 grams. Such a small peice could be a componant of many different objects including pendants, strap fittings and implements.

The remaining piece has a side bar 51.5mm long, with a rectangular cross section and a terminal in the form of a two-lobed fleur; projecting from beneath this fleur, and on the same plane, is the remnant of a sub-trapezoidal element, measuring 16.9mm long and with an uneven bottom edge which suggests the former existence of openwork decoration. Post Medieval copper alloy token farthing minted for William Smith of Steyning, Sussex in 1667. Williamson Vol 3. p.1182, Sussex No.165. William Smith was a mercer. There is a reference, in Sussex Archaeological Collections 19 p.95, to a William Smith of Steyning who had an estate worth £20 seized by parliment in 1655 because the owner was either a Royalist or a Catholic (the ordnance covered both). This may or may not be the same person as issued the tokens but Williamson suggests it is.

A cast lead-alloy circular uni-faced token with three visible casting spruces at the cardinal points. The token has a raised design of the initial 'E' on one side, the other side is blank. It is 21.20mm in diameter, 1.85 mm thick and weighs 4.8 grams. Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular unifaced token (1250-1850 AD). The token has been cast with a raised design of a equal arm cross on the obverse and a flat, undecorated reverse. The token measures 15.8mm in diameter, 1.2mm thick and weighs 1.80 grams. The edges are starting to laminate and crumble away suggesting it has a higher tin content than usual. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date (1250-1850 AD).

Cast lead circular unifaced token. The obverse of the token is decorated with the raised initials G over GF or GE. The reverse is blank. The token is 24.8mm in diameter, 2.33mm thick and weighs 6.84 grams. Tokens with simple designs were very easy to make, had a range of uses and continued in use for a long period. The arrangement of initials in this format was common in 17th century for married couples, the upper initial indicated the surname and the lower initials the husband and wives first names, suggesting this token dates to that time.

Medieval cast copper alloy 'beehive' shaped thimble with central hole. The thimble is almost hemispherical with slightly lengthened sides. The small circular pits are arranged in an irregular spiral from the base to the top leaving a small bare tonsure with a cenral circular hole. There is also a fine incised line around the base just above the rim.
