An incomplete silver penny of Cnut. In Fine condition, although only c.50% survives. "Short Cross type" (1029 - 1036).
The legend still present on the reverse reads [...]FPINE or [...]EPINE for both of which there are many options (for example, Aelfwine, Leofwine, Hunewine, wulfwine) Some of these names occur at several different mints and so further defining the mint and moneyer is not possible. (With thanks to Laura Burnett, FLO for Somerset, for comments. 28.05.15)

A lead disc, blank on one side and with an impression of the obverse of an VRBS ROMA Roman nummus. For similar impressed objects, see this database at: LON-8C0467, WAW-013507 and LIN-FE2DF8, which has been described as a probably metal working hoard, or maybe a forgers hoard.
A suggestion by Dr. Martin Henig for LON-8C0467 was a tessera used possibly as a pass to allow entry into a military building or the Baths, for example. An alternative possiblity is as a seal, but theer are no holes for the attachment of cord.

Object type: RING
Broad period: IRON AGE
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy ring. The ring is circular in section. Two transverse grooves are just visible aournd the outside.
It has an outer diameter of 17mm and an inner diameter of 11mm. The thickness of the ring ranges from 4mm at its thickest, to 3mm at its thinnest.
Although cast copper alloy beads with similar transverse grooves are known from the Bronze Age to Roman periods, the distinct and apparently deliberate difference between the two sides may suggest this is a suspension or harness loop which has been worn through use, rather than an Iron Age bead.

Silver Iron Age unit. Very worn. Probably Tinnocommios.
Obv: Head facing right. TINCO
Rev: Eagle with wings spread standing on snake.
Tincommios was joint ruler of the Atrebates kingdom, firstly with his father, Commios the Younger, and later with his younger brother, Eppilus. Tincommios chose to rule the southern sections of the kingdom, which proved to be a mistake as the town of Calleva (Silchester) under his brothers rule became recognised by the Romans as the main centre of Artebatum power.
Eppilus overthrew his brother from power in BC 7, and Tincommios fled to Rome to p…

Cast copper alloy lamp hanger/suspender. Medieval. Circular terminal with central hole (3mm diameter) attached to a long shank (17mm long), circular in section.
