The weight was originally open in profile, having a circular base with the sides flaring up to a wider rim. A base fragment of a greyware ceramic vessel dating to the Roman period (c. AD 43 - 410). The base is almost flat, with wear marks and more recent scratches on the underside. There is very little of the vessel's body that remains adhered to the base, but there is enough to suggest an open profile vessel form, too little survives to estimate the diameter. The fragment is a blue-grey in colour, with brownish patina. The hard fired fabric is non-micaceous with abundant very fine sand temper and occasional rounded iron stone inclusions. It widens to terminate in a flat, extended foot, which, when placed on a flat surface, sets the object at an angle and has a D-shaped imprint with a straight front edge. A medieval to post-medieval cast lead-alloy circular unifaced token of Powell type 21 (c. AD 1250-1800). The token has a raised design of a wheel with eight spokes running from the centre to meet a circular line. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date.

The front is domed or convex and has a motif of radiating lines or sunburst pattern; approximately half of this has worn away. A lead token with similar radiating lines, which is dated from AD 1675 to 1700, is illustrated in Egan (2005: p170; number 932). However, as the Devon item did not come from a dateable archaeological context, it can only be given a broad date.
