A probable flint scraper of probably Bronze Age date or AD 2500 to 800. The scraper is struck off a tertiary flake and retains no cortex. The scraper is sub-rectangular in plan albeit with one slightly curved mesal side. Every edge is heavily chipped and damaged but behind this damage is evidence of semi-parallel abrupt retouch along the majority of their ventral surface while the distal edge demonstrates this semi-abrupt retouch on its dorsal surface also. An incomplete cast copper alloy dagger. The dagger is broadly triangular with a straight sides tapering to a rounded point. It is almost flat in cross section, with a defined, thinned edges leaving a low central rib on both faces. At the hilt end the remnant of a flared tang with a semi-circular hole on either side for missing rivets. Both faces have some raised and uneven corrosion products, particularly at the tang end. Probably a palaeolithic flint tool reused in the later prehistoric period, possibly as a knife or other cutting tool. The tool is of a dark brown/black flint, rolled and with significant areas of iron staining. At more recent removal scars the flint can be seen to be mottled with cloudy white areas and rare white inclusions. Possibly a cast copper alloy awl or tracer. About half the length is square-section (maximum 6mm across) and fairly even in width, the other half is rounded and narows gradually and terminates to a point. there is no obvious waist where the two sections join. 82mm long and weighs 9.4 grams. Plain copper alloy awls are hard to date precisely and this lacks the characteristic central thickening of some Bronze Age examples. Circumstances of Discovery: On the 12th July, two side-looped palstaves, and one socketed hammer were found. The hoard was found on the side of a ditch on pasture land, in North Somerset. A large lump of copper, it's rounded appearence suggests it has cooled from molton metal in a crucible or other mould.
