A complete continental sterling imitation of a Medieval long cross penny, issued by William of Hainaut, Bishop of Cambrai (1285-1296 AD). Mint: Cambrai; double-pellet stops. This sterling coin is from the latter half of his episcopate, dating to c. 1290-96. The obverse depicts a bust facing front with rose wreath instead of crown; the obverse legend reads: + GVILLS:EPISCOPVS. A complete Post Medieval silver gilt dress pin with hollow-cast spherical head, c. 16th century AD. The pin has been drawn from a thick silver wire 2.40 mm in diameter and the shaft measures approximately 72 mm long (including the section through the head) with a 90-degree bend about one third of the length up from the point. Post Medieval - Modern cast lead two disc cloth seal. The disks sit one on top of the other and are joined by a tab. One had a hole in the centre and the other a projecting point which has been pushed through the hole and then stamped flat to fix them together. The tab is mostly missing from old breaks. The stamp has the initials R.W. The discs are bent and at most 27.4mm in diameter, 3.7mm thick and it weighs 14.22 grams. The simplcity of the design of initials rather than a privy mark suggests a later date, 17th-18th century (cf Egan p.84, no.234, 236 and p.86, no.242)

The frame has two oval loops which are triangular in section with a flat back and steeply angled inner side and more bevelled outer side. The pin is missing. The buckle has a red brown surface with areas of green corrosion. The frame is 21.6mm long, 17.3mm wide and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 1.81 grams. Such a simple buckle is hard to date precisely, Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (page 53, No.294) which he dates to c.1350-1650 AD.

Probably a strap fitting of cast copper alloy, bent over at one end. One end has a rectangular strip, bent over to form a crude hook; it is rectangular in section and appears complete. Below this hook is a raised collar on the front below which the object widens slightly before tapering in gradually and ending in a expanded oval knop at the foot. Copper alloy vessel repair formed of two broadly rectangular pieces of copper alloy sheet with irregular, broken edges. They are held together by three folded copper alloy sheet rivets, probably of the 'folded lozenge style which was popular in the Medieval period. The fragment measures 59.3mm in length, 18.7mm in width and is 4.9mm at its thickest point. It weighs 12.42 grams.
