Half of a cast copper alloy token or coin. The item is a disk with a prominent raised design of a bust on one side. The break is old and patinated. The remaining half appears to have a blank reverse and there is no inscription on the obverse. There is a reference, in Sussex Archaeological Collections 19 p.95, to a William Smith of Steyning who had an estate worth £20 seized by parliment in 1655 because the owner was either a Royalist or a Catholic (the ordnance covered both). This may or may not be the same person as issued the tokens but Williamson suggests it is.
