An incomplete copper-alloy strap-end of Medieval date. The piece represents the projecting end from a socketed strap-end. It is of thin section, flat on the underside, and takes the form of three equal-sized discs, arranged in an inverted-sub-triangular formation. The surface of each of these discs is concave and has been incised with a number of parallel, angled grooves, probably designed to catch the light. A silver cut halfpenny of John. The reverse legend on this coin reads 'RIEARD ON [...'. This die error is known for Ricard at London in class 5a2 (Mass 1275) and this is likely to be from the same die. The coin is slightly worn and bent. It measures 17.8mm in diameter, 0.4mm thick and weighs 0.65g.
