An incomplete probable Early Medieval or possibly Roman strap end. The object is 26.1mm long and fairly flat, tapering in thickness from 4.1mm to 1.1mm along its length. It comprises a sub-circular disc section of diameter 12.5mm that has extensions on two opposite sides. One extension is a small terminal, sub-triangular in plan, tapering from 3.6mm where it leaves the disc to a point c5mm from the disc, a slight indented line divides it from the oval part. Part of an Early Medieval copper openwork alloy strap end dating to the 10th and 11th centuries. The piece is the middle part of the strap end with both the terminal and attachment end lost to old breaks. The strap end was tounge shaped with sides converging slightly towards the rounded terminal. An incomplete cast copper alloy strap-end of early-medieval date of Thomas Class B. The object is broadly rectangular and has a square zoomorphic terminal with rounded edges and corners that is sub-rectangular in cross section. This terminal is worn but has the remains of raised brow ridges with an indented channel between and raised circular nostrils at the lower corners. The strap-end is flat in profile and sub rectangular with slightly convex sides and squared off zoomorphic terminal. A cast copper-alloy brooch, either a small shallow saucer brooch or a Suzuki Class B or C button brooch of early early-medieval date (5th - 6th century AD) with style I decoration. Early Medieval silver sceat dating to the period AD 710 to 740. Series X (type 31 Woden head / crested monster). Barrett type Ap (Metcalf 1993:279). Probably minted at Ribe, Denmark. North (1994: 65) no 116. Areas of copper alloy corrosion on both faces suggest it is debased silver. Analysis of a similar coin, although lighter and perhaps of less good design, in the Ashmolean collection found it had a silver content of 63% (Metcalf 1993: plate 16 no.208).

The central decorative element from a circular enamelled brooch of late 10th to 11th century date (Saunderton type). The circular component is divided into a scrolling cruciform pattern with separate cells of red, blue and white glass made using a cloisonne technique set into a backing plate with integral raised sides. The rest of the brooch, catchplate and pin are missing. The brooch may have been gilded but there is no trace of gilding on this fragment.
