Iron mount. Rob Web;l;ey kindly comments: 'I wonder if this is plausibly a part of a barb spring padlock? Please see HAMP-2228C3 and the references it quotes, for example'.Thick discoid plate with three square section fixing pins of shank width 6.6mm and thickness 5.4mm passing through it from front to back, appearing as burred features nearly flush with the display face and projecting from the back as stubs. The display face has a low rim, and retains buff material on one side of the display face, and more extensively on the back. Both the object and the fixing pins respond strongly…

A probably early post-medieval (1500-1650) uniface lead alloy circular token with the initials AB divided by a crozier (the end curling right). Above the A (and to the left of the head of the crozier) is the letter O. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally. They are difficult to date precisely, although those with initials are generally thought to be post-medieval in date (c.1500-1850). Rob Webley comments of this token, 'The form of the A reminds me of that on the Augsburg cloth seals, so a foreign source may be a possibility' (pers. comm. June 2018). Augsburg …

An almost complete cast copper-alloy lid from a Roman seal box of Andrews Type L2D1 dating to the 2nd or 3rd century AD. The lid is lozengiform, with slightly concave sides, is hollow, and rectangular in cross-section. At of the narrower apices of the lid is a small, oval pierced lug, off centre, following one of the sides; its counterpart would have been set to the other side giving a double lug. The opposite apex terminates in a circular projection, or knob, 3.3 mm in diameter. The other two apices each feature a small knop, which sit above a semi-circular recess in the side of the …

Copper alloy mount. Cast T-shaped harness mount, as kindly identified by Rob Webley. Rob comments: 'I would suggest that this is medieval, and specifically a harness mount. Please see SOM-6231A5, for example'. The mount has an upper bar of plano-convex section from which projects the stubs of integrally cast fixing prongs, the longer now c.4.5mm long. A drilled aperture of diameter 3.5mm is set centrally in the upright of the T, with a rectangular lop immediately below it, set at right angles to the rest of the mount and forward of its flat back. Iron and copper alloy unidentified object, as kindly suggested by Rob Webley, who comments: 'This identification [stirrup mount] seems a little speculative to me - I suggest it should go down as an Unidentified Object'. An iron plate or frame, possibly of trapezoid hexagonal form (cf. Williams' Class A Type 5) or circular with a flattened base, and with a central zone occupied by a sub-rectangular component, whether made in one piece with the outer frame or inserted is uncertain. A double moulded collar marks the start of the oval-sectioned stem, which has a hollow tip. Two forward-facing prongs would have made up the bit. The length is 47mm, the width is 27mm. An incomplete copper-alloy openwork fitting, probably a scabbard chape. It is rectangular with decoration on the front face. At the right hand side the vertical edge curves around to project backwards. This probably indicates that the chape was folded over with the plate extending along the back. Cast copper alloy object of uncertain function, possibly relating to Medieval horse harness decoration. Copper alloy harness pendant, as kindly confirmed by Rob Webley, who comments as follows: '[I] agree that this is probably a broken harness pendant; there are enough on the database with a separate rivet in the lower lobe. For what it's worth, I don't see any lettering, nor do I think the enamel has anything to do with the Limoges tradition..'.[correcting a suggestion advanced by this reporter].
